Horse Racing Tips

The Horse is back with us on a Thursday afternoon, with his best bets from around the country for Thursday, December 3rd. Today, The Horse finds his best racing tips from Coffs Harbour and Kyneton with his free previews below.

For race-by-race coverage, including race fields, odds comparisons and tips for every race today, head over to our dedicated horse racing site at www.racingbet.com.au.

Coffs Harbour Race 5

Coffs plays host to the Sawtell Cup today, but it’s this race where we see one of the better bets on the program. (1) Northern Knight has been racing consistently in this grade and only narrowly beaten last start. He has a good overall record and a quality showing at this track (four starts for one win and three places). The reason why he stands out is the class, with the field predominantly stepping up in grade. He does draw the car park which is the query, however he maps to drop-back anyway, so the wider gate may allow him to stay to the outside and gain clear running when needed. He has been closing well in shorter distances, so the jump to 1400 metres is a positive.

(4) Boyles is the danger from the inside draw while it’s a dart job across the remainder of the field.

(1) Northern Knight

Kyneton Race 2

There are plenty of first starters here with loads of unknowns. Of the raced competitors there are two clear stand-outs in the market, which looks to have it right—albeit they are closer in the market than we would have them. (12) Taylor’s Dream for the Maher/Eustace stable wasn’t disgraced last start, but did find a few better. Her overall record is pretty inconsistent and it is hard to be confident at the price.

(13) Verspertine for the Beg stable is the other in contention. First-up she placed third behind Crosshaven (by a solid margin) but ran well in defeat. Despite the margin, that’s a pretty good line to follow. She comes back from a good spell, so the query is fitness first-up. Considering her best effort last preparation was first-up, happy to assume he is good to go. There is really nothing else in the field that we can make a solid case for, so he looks one of the better bets on the program.

(13) Verspertine

Kyneton Race 4

This is another maiden that sets-up similar to the first race. We have a perennial place getter in (12) Silk Jacket going around as favourite. She has raced ten times for seven places (this prep: 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, & 3). The owners must have some serious patience. Can she do it today? Similar to Gutsy, she gets the blinkers on first time today—and this could be the difference. John Allen keeps the ride which is a positive. The draw is not the kindest, with a wider gate to contend with, but with even luck Allen should come across and sit mid-field. He just needs to find some cover. There is very little outside the top chance, so making it a clear pick.

(12) Silk Jacket

Kyneton Race 7

This is a wide open race with plenty of chances—and a few with clear improvement to come. (1) Krispy Kev steps up after a maiden win, but when reflecting on his performances to get the maiden out of the way, the tougher field here looks to have him stretched. He can still race well, but the odds would want to drift to bring us in. (2) Lani Bang Bang is clearly capable and comes here after a couple of nice trials—she will be ready to fire and can take it to the favourite. Her only win came on the Heavy track, so really there is a query about the better ground today. Her win was only by the thinnest of margins.

(4) Shorthand is on the upward trend and won on Good going first-up. She won by almost a length and looks to have improvement. The Dabernig/Hayes yard will expecting another good performance and she deserves favouritism here. She draws alongside the threat Lani Bang Bang so they should both get their chances.

(4) Shorthand
