2026 NBA Finals Betting Tips & Series Preview: Spurs vs Knicks

NBA Finals Betting Tips

Welcome to the pinnacle of the 2025-26 NBA season. The 2026 NBA Finals are set, delivering a blockbuster cross-conference clash that drips with nostalgia. For the first time since 1999, the San Antonio Spurs meet the New York Knicks on the NBA's biggest stage.

While New York rides an incredible wave of momentum, aiming to snap a 53-year championship drought for the famous franchise, San Antonio enters as battle-tested favourites after surviving a brutal Western Conference bracket.

Below, we break down both rosters, highlight the crucial tactical battles, and deliver our best bet for the 2026 NBA Finals.

2026 NBA Finals Betting Tips & Series Preview: Spurs vs Knicks

San Antonio Spurs Team Preview & Form

The Spurs’ return to championship contention has been spectacular. Anchored by the 2026 Defensive Player of the Year, Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio arrives at the Finals following a gruelling 4-3 series win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Down 3-2 to a fierce rival, the Spurs showed immense character, ultimately closing out Game 7 behind a suffocating team defence and a clutch 20-point performance from Julian Champagnie.

However, San Antonio is far from a one-man show. The front office’s brilliant move to bring in De'Aaron Fox has provided elite downhill speed, perfectly complementing emerging young stars like Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and rookie Dylan Harper. They boast a multi-faceted offence and a versatile rim-protecting defence, perfectly priming them to handle the physical toll of the Finals. They have survived the gauntlet of the West, and oddsmakers rightfully have them positioned as the clear favourites.

New York Knicks Team Preview & Form

On the opposite coast, the Knicks have captured the hearts of New York with a postseason run for the ages. The Knicks will head to Texas riding an astonishing 11-game playoff winning streak, recently sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Anchored by relentless perimeter defenders like Josh Hart and Miles McBride, the Knicks win by dragging opponents into physical, isolation-heavy grinds. They thrive on hustle, elite defensive rotations, and dominating the offensive glass. However, they are yet to face a test quite like San Antonio's sheer size and versatility. While they have the historical weight of Madison Square Garden behind them, oddsmakers remain highly sceptical of their ceiling against elite Western Conference size, leaving New York as clear underdogs.

Spurs vs Knicks Key Matchups

- The Wemby Problem: You simply cannot teach 7-foot-4. Wembanyama’s ability to shoot over double teams and protect the rim at historic rates is a tactical nightmare. Having recently become the first player in NBA history to record 15+ threes and 15+ blocks in a single playoff series, he demands constant attention. New York must rely on committee-based defence to force the ball out of his hands, but his elite passing vision makes that incredibly dangerous.

- Backcourt Speed vs. Knicks Grit: De'Aaron Fox’s transition speed will heavily test New York's scrambling defence. If Fox is allowed to collapse the paint and kick out to shooters like Vassell and Champagnie, San Antonio will be virtually unguardable. The Knicks must dictate a slower, half-court tempo to negate the Spurs’ athletic advantages in the open floor.

NBA Finals Predictions & Series Best Bet

San Antonio opened as heavy series favourites, and it is easy to see why. While the Knicks have the romance of a 53-year drought and a flawless recent record, seven-game series are ultimately decided by matchups, depth, and superstars. The Spurs simply have too many offensive weapons and the ultimate trump card in Wembanyama.

We expect San Antonio to fiercely protect their home court in Games 1 and 2. While New York’s intense, high-energy style should steal them at least one game at a raucous Madison Square Garden, the Spurs' superior depth, elite rim protection, and sheer star power will ultimately shine through over a gruelling fortnight.

Instead of taking the short outright odds on San Antonio to simply win the championship, the premier value lies in the series handicap market. Backing the Spurs at -1.5 games means they need to win the series 4-0, 4-1, or 4-2. Given our prediction that San Antonio's firepower will wrap this up in six games at a maximum, this stands out as our top betting play for the Finals.
