EPL 2025-26: Matchday 9 Preview & Betting Tips
Brentford vs Liverpool
Gtech Community Stadium, Sunday 26th October, 6:00am AEDT
All eyes will be on Liverpool heading into Matchday 9, with the defending champions losing their third straight match after their 2-1 loss to Manchester United. The Reds have fallen to third on the table, and have to travel to West London to take on a Brentford side coming off a 2-0 win over West Ham. After a slow start to the season, Brentford have won two of their last three games and will be eager to keep their momentum going.
After being the second best defence in the league last season, the Reds have taken a backwards step, ranking 10th in the league having conceded 11 goals. 6 of those 11 goals have been conceded in their last three games, conceding 2 goals in each of their last three games. If Arne Slot’s team is to turn around their form, they need to get their defensive game back in order. Liverpool have scored in every game this season and are the equal fourth highest scoring team in the league, so if they can be better defensively, they’ll be back on track quickly.
Liverpool have loved matching up against Brentford, winning five straight Premier League games against the Bees. They haven’t been close affairs either, with the aggregate score over those five games being 12-1. The stakes are high for Liverpool, who need to keep in touching distance of league leaders Arsenal, the bounce back performance has to come from the defending champs. Liverpool will continue their strong form against Brentford.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace
Emirates Stadium, Monday 27th October, 1:00am AEDT
Another Liverpool loss has seen Arsenal move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table. The Gunners have won three straight games, are unbeaten in their last five games and have a 6-1-1 record. Crystal Palace have been one of the surprise packets of this season, but have had a slide with a loss and a draw in their last two games. Palace are now eighth on the table, but are only three points off second place, so a win over the Gunners would provide a major shakeup to the top end of the table.
Arsenal have been consistent in all facets of the game, being the number one ranked defence (3 goals conceded), the third ranked attacking side (15 goals conceded) and rank fourth for possession (58.3%). Crystal Palace’s statistical profile is also in good order, ranking as the sixth best defence (8 goals conceded) and the seventh highest scoring team in the league (12 goals scored).
Arsenal have had the wood over Crystal Palace, with five wins and a draw from their last six Premier League matchups against Palace. Those five wins have come in a dominant manner, with scorelines of 5-1, 5-0, 1-0, 4-1 and 2-0. Arsenal are firing on all cylinders and can see an opportunity to put some space between themselves and the chasing pack. The Gunners will pick up another convincing win against Crystal Palace.

Aston Villa vs Manchester City
Villa Park, Monday 27th October, 1:00am AEDT
The best matchup of the weekend takes place on Monday morning with Manchester City taking on Aston Villa. After a tough start to the season, Manchester City have won four of their past five games to move into second place, three points behind Arsenal. Aston Villa had a similarly tough start, going winless through their first five games, but since then they’ve won three straight games and a win over City would have them in the mix for a top four spot.
Manchester City have gotten back to their ways as an attacking force this season, scoring a league high 17 goals. Pep Guardiola’s side has excelled in all areas of the game being the number two ranked team for possession (51.8%) and the second best defence (6 goals conceded). Aston Villa have got their attacking game going across their last three games, scoring seven goals in their last three games, so both defences will have their work cut out for them.
Despite their improvement to be a top four contender in recent seasons, Aston Villa have struggled against Manchester City, with a 3-2-17 record across their last 22 Premier League matches. Both teams are in great form, but Manchester City’s ability to control the games in the middle of the ground, and the quality of defence will hold them in good stead.
