The 2021 AFL season is finally here! The Tigers and Blues kick off the year on Thursday night from the MCG and what an exciting year it's set to be! Fans are back in the stands and we have a full 23 round schedule to look forward to before the Grand Final is back where it belongs, at the MCG.
Round 1 boasts some extremely interesting matchups which may prove tricky for our AFL Round 1 tips. As always, the season opener between Richmond and Carlton should be a good one but many have their eyes on the mouthwatering Friday night clash this week, which sees new Western Bulldogs recruit Adam Treloar facing his old side Collingwood in his first game for the new side. Seven more games will be played out over the weekend, headlined by the likes of the Hawks and Bombers on Saturday night and the Giants and Saints on Sunday afternoon. The Friday night game between Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs has become a staple in the Round 1 fixture over the past few years and this one will have some extra tension as former Collingwood midfielder Adam Treloar will square off against his old team in his first game for the Bulldogs.

The heat is on Simon Goodwin at Melbourne and he'll be needing to get the most out of his talented list this season otherwise it could be curtains for his coaching career. The Dees kick off their 2021 campaign against the Dockers at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

The Crows finished on the bottom of the AFL ladder in 2020 and they will have an extremely tough test in Round 1 on Saturday afternoon as they square off against the Cats with their shiny new recruits all set to be in action.

The AFL schedule makers really hit the mark with this Saturday night marquee clash from Marvel Stadium. Two teams in the Bombers and Hawks who both have a lot of unknown surrounding them heading into the 2021 season will square off. Either of these two teams could conceivably finish in the top eight or in the bottom four. It will be interesting to see how their season starts.

The Lions will unveil their new recruit Joe Daniher on Saturday night at home against the Sydney Swans. The Swans will be waiting on baited breath for fitness updates on their star forward Lance Franklin, who didn't play a single game in 2020 and is fighting to prove fitness ahead of Round 1.

The Roos are slated to finish on the bottom of the ladder this season after a really disappointing 2020 and an offseason that suggested a full rebuild. They will host Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium in Round 1, who should be a real top four contender in 2021.

Many have tipped the Saints to be one of the big movers in the 2021 season after another really busy off-season. They will start as underdogs on the road in Round 1 though as they travel to Sydney to take on the Giants. Can St. Kilda overcome some early season injury setbacks to win on the road?
