West Indies vs Australia 2nd T20I Preview & Betting Tips
West Indies Failed To Capitalise, Again
Much like the Test series, the West Indies found themselves in a strong position at 2/159, but lost 6/30 across the final 4.3 overs to be restricted to 8/189. The Windies star powered middle order of Rovman Powell (1), Andre Russell (8), Sherfane Rutherford (0) and Jason Holder (0) combined for only 9 runs.
The top order did a great job with Roston Chase (60 off 32), Shai Hope (55 off 39) and Shimron Hetmyer (38 off 19) set a strong platform for the Windies, who should have scored in excess of 200 and put the game away early.
Gudakesh Motie (2/29) and Jason Holder (2/32) were to pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, while Andre Russell’s 2 over spell was costly, conceding 37 runs. The West Indies will also be looking to get more out of Alzarri Joseph, who went at an economy rate of 10.17.
Aussie Young Guns Standing Up
After a breakout campaign in BBL14 that earned him a spot in the Australian side, Mitch Owen was the hero on debut for Australia. In the unfamiliar position of number 6, Owen smashed 50 off 27 deliveries to put Australia on the cusp of victory. Cam Green (51 off 26) combined with Owen for an 80 run partnership that was key to Australia’s win.
With the ball it was a tale of an underwhelming start followed by a brilliant finish, in what proved crucial in Australia chasing a gettable score. Ben Dwarshuis was smashed for 21 from his first 2 overs, but bounced back brilliantly in his final two overs to finish with figures of 4/36. Sean Abbott (1/40) and Cooper Connolly (1/24 off 2) were expensive, but Nathan Ellis (1/31) and Adam Zampa (0/30) were economical.
The big question around Australia’s side heading into game two will be the place of Jake Fraser-McGurk, who once again failed to make an impact. Fraser-McGurk is averaging just 16 in T20I’s, with his last nine white ball innings for Australia producing scores of 2, 9, 2, 18, 20, 9, 7, 13 and 16. Moving Mitch Owen to his preferred position as an opener seems as an easy solution, given how good he was on Monday morning
Here's Our West Indies vs Australia Tip
If the West Indies top order can replicate what they did in game one, it’s hard to see their middle to lower order failing as dramatically as they did in game one. If one or two of Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford and Jason Holder can provide something with the bat, the Windies will put up a big score.
Equally with the ball there’s plenty of upside for the West Indies, given Alzarri Joseph, Andre Russell and Roston Chase all struggled with the ball on Monday. There will be plenty of emotion given it will be the last time Dre Russell pulls on a West Indies uniform, so expect the Windies to bounce back and send off the star in winning fashion.
