Thunder vs Pacers: NBA Finals Game 2 Predictions & Tips
Game 1 Recap
The best team in the regular season, the OKC Thunder, showcased their dominance through three quarters, leading 85-76 at the end of the third quarter. MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) nailed a three-point shot to end the quarter, and all momentum was seemingly with the favourite on their home court.
Fast forward a couple of minutes into the fourth and the Thunder extended their lead to 15 after a Jalen Williams dunk. The score was 94-79 with 9:42 remaining.
The final nine minutes of the game was the 2024-25 Indiana Pacers on full display. Another miraculous run from a seemingly impossible position. Andrew Nembhard hit a crucial three with 1:59 left to play, cutting the deficit to just three.
Leading 110-109 with less than 15 seconds to play, SGA missed a mid-range fadeaway jump shot, normally an automatic make for the superstar. The Pacers opted not to call a timeout. The final shot would fall to none other than Tyrese Haliburton, who pulled up for a deep two-pointer, and drained it! The Thunder were unable to get a shot off with 0.3 seconds left and the Pacers would win 111-110.
It was a remarkable comeback from the gritty Pacers. They trailed for all but 0.3 seconds in the game. All five starters finished with more than 10 points and Obi Toppin dropped 17 off the bench. For the Thunder, SGA finished with 38 points, Williams had 17 and Lu Dort had 15. Chet Holmgren felt the pressure under the bright lights with a 2-9 shooting performance, finishing with just six points and six rebounds.
Who Takes Game 2? Here’s Our Thunder vs Pacers Tip
The Thunder had Game 1 firmly in their hands and let it slip, blowing a 15-point fourth-quarter lead. Despite leading for almost the entire game, they trailed when it mattered the most, at the final buzzer.
It is far from panic stations for the NBA’s best defence. They pressured the Pacers into a mammoth 24 turnovers, while taking care of the ball with only six turnovers themselves. SGA was brilliant in the opening game and the same should be expected in this game.
It is time for Holmgren and Williams to step up. The former was virtually non-existent, while the latter finished with an inefficient 6-19 from the field. Williams often bounces back from a poor game, so expect him to be aggressive, as the Thunder’s second leading scorer can set the tone supporting SGA.
On the defensive end, the likes of Dort, Alex Caruso and Cason Wallace can disrupt the Pacers offensive unit. If the Pacers commit too many turnovers, the Thunder are going to make them pay this time around.
In Game 1, the Pacers shot well, dropping 48% from the field and 46% from deep. They can’t expect their three-point shooting to remain at that clip. This could be a statement game for the Thunder who cannot afford a 0-2 deficit at home; they can win Game 2 convincingly to even the series.
