St Kilda vs Melbourne

The first of two Saturday night matches to get underway in Round 17 will be St Kilda vs Melbourne at Marvel Stadium. Both clubs have had a dip in form in recent weeks and a win either way have massive finals implications.
St Kilda fans would’ve breathed a collective sigh of relief after the full-time siren sounded in their clash against West Coast last weekend. They almost lost the unlosable over in the West, but just did enough in the second half to come away eight-point winners.
Still, the Saints are the only team the Eagles haven’t lost to by more than 40 points over the past 13 rounds, which shows where their current form is at. The Saints haven’t been able to win back-to-back games since Rounds 3-4, yet they still sit as high as fifth on the ladder due to their hot start in 2023.
Melbourne have had some form issues of their own in recent weeks. They’ve lost two in a row and four of their last six heading into Round 17, which has seen them open the door for clubs to challenge them for their top four spot.
Clayton Oliver’s absence has left a big hole in the Demons midfield and it’s an issue they’re yet to figure out. The Demons have won only 2/5 matches with him on the sidelines this season and he’s unfortunately set to miss at least another three games.
The Demons have copped a lot of criticism due to losing four of their last six matches, but the fact of the matter is they’ve lost those four matches by a combined 28 points.
I think it’s more than fair to say that although they’ve struggled to win of late, their form is still far better than what the Saints have been dishing up for a couple of months now.
Simply put, I don’t want any part of the Saints at the moment and am happy to oppose them and back the Demons to cover the small spread as a result.
