Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 17th 2024

Race 2: Sportsbet Make It Look Good Handicap - 4:15pm (AEDT)

(1) Surprise Valley gets the inside drawn for Campbell Rawiller and the filly had the same barrier last start when winning by 2.25L after leading all of the way at Yarra Valley. This is harder but if she can control the speed in this, she is going to be very hard to pass down the straight. On debut at Muswellbrook she led and was caught but she found again to win on that day too. She is tough and is trained by leading trainers Waterhouse&Bott.

(2) Donegal won on debut at Mornington when she wasn’t expected to feature. She has been spelled since so late market support may be the best guide here. She won a Flemington jumpout at her latest hitout but I reckon that she will be giving Surprise Valley 2 lengths in the run.

(4) Single ‘N’ Ready has Blake Shinn on for the first time which is a plus. On December 20 she stormed home from near last at Flemington to run 2nd. It will be interesting to see if she settles back again. Likes Dry ground and is a key chance.

(1) Surprise Valley

$3.20 (2 Units)

Race 4: Ive Handicap - 5:25pm (AEDT)

*Scracted* (8) Omeo does get a long way back in his races but there is a bit of pace on in this race which might give him the opportunity to unwind late. He has won on the Good before and his latest Werribee run was very good (4th) considering he was last on the turn on a track which is hard to make up ground on. He had barrier 13 that day and comes in a few places to 9 for this race which might assist. First try at the distance but is 100 percent fit now.

(5) Guns Ablazing likes this distance and is tough as they come. A Dry track suits and he will roll forward again here after settling close to the lead here last start.

(9) Apache Thunder was unlucky last start when 5th at The Valley. The blinkers come off for this and this race is easier.

(8) Omeo WIN

SCR

Race 6: Thoroughbred Australia Handicap - 6:30pm (AEDT)

(6) Tahlequah almost got there at Cranbourne on December 22 after settling handy and the short break in between races might be to her benefit here. She meets the distance for the first time but has won in this class previously. Shinn is on which is a slight upgrade from Childs and barrier 10 almost ensures that he will come over and settle 2nd on the outside. She is very consistent and seeing Hillside for a second time might be the key.

(9) Aiming has the inside which might assist her being at the distance for the first time. In her last two starts she has been close up and she will likely settle midfield for Damien Lane.

(4) Nishino Crescent has a wide barrier to contend with in 12 but did run on well at Seymour last start which suggests he is ready for the distance. He is second up for Henry Dwyer and he has won second up previously.

(6) Tahlequah

$6.50 (1 Unit)
