Carlton vs West Coast Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 16

The Blue Train Is Rolling

Five straight wins under Josh Fraser has breathed life into Carlton’s season, with the Blues now within one game of the top ten. Carlton weathered a third quarter storm from GWS, holding the Giants goalless in the last term as they kicked the last four goals of the game to run out 23 point winners. Carlton’s contest work was brilliant, winning the contest possession count by 12, which allowed them to win the territory battle, recording +15 inside 50’s, with the weight of numbers wearing down the Giants. The Blues got massive performances from their midfield as Sam Walsh (34 disposals, 1 goal), Patrick Cripps (33), George Hewett (30, 1 goal) and Jagga Smith (26) controlling the midfield battle.

Continued Improvement

West Coast come into this game off the bye, after a solid patch of football heading into the break. The Eagles are 2-3 across their last five games, and it could easily be 5-0 with their three losses coming by margins 1, 6 and 10 points. These honourable losses have showcased a big improvement for a side who had an average losing margin of 45 points last year, with 12 losses over 40 points and 7 losses over 60 points. West Coast are finding a way to be more competitive and a test away from home against an in-form Carlton will be a barometer for Andrew McQualter’s side.

Recent Head to Head History

As it has been for West Coast against most opposition over the past four years, it’s been one way traffic in this matchup. Carlton have won six straight games against the Eagles, by margins of 63, 108, 71, 65, 71 and 34 points, however given this Carlton side doesn’t feature Charlie Curnow who has tormented the Eagles, it should be closer.

Blues or Eagles? Here’s Our Carlton vs West Coast Tip

Carlton should win this game, however the -34.5 line is a bit too big for our liking, so we’ll be looking towards the head to head market. Whilst the praise for Josh Fraser has largely been around the changes in their ball movement, their improvement in defence has been astronomical over the last five games. Across the first nine games of the season, the Blues conceded an average of 101 points per game and only conceded under 90 points twice. Since Josh Fraser has taken over, the Blues have conceded just 67 points per game, and have only conceded above 68 points once.

The average total points across Carlton’s last five games has been 150, with four of those five games going under 154 points. Carlton rank 14th in the AFL for points scored, while West Coast ranks 17th, so all signs point towards the under in this matchup.

Carlton vs West Coast Prop Bet

Patrick Cripps has been excellent across his last six games, with four 30+ disposal performances in that timespan. Cripps is averaging 29.83 disposals across his last six games and will be a nightmare matchup for a young West Coast midfield.

Sam Walsh 25+ Disposals: Whilst his impact hasn’t been massive, Walsh continues to rack up the footy, averaging 28 disposals per game in 2026. Walsh has reached the 25+ disposal mark in 11 of his 14 games in 2026.

Will Hayward 2+ Goals: After a poor start to his time at Carlton, Will Hayward has put in an excellent six week stretch. Hayward has kicked 2, 1, 3, 2, 0 and 3 goals across his last six games. Hayward has kicked 2+ goals in four consecutive games against West Coast.
