The third major championship of the season has arrived, and few venues in world golf command the respect and fear of Shinnecock Hills. One of America's most historic layouts returns to the spotlight for the first time since Brooks Koepka's victory in 2018, with the world's best set to tackle one of the sternest examinations in championship golf.

PGA Tour US Open Betting Preview
Shinnecock Hills, Thursday 18 - Sunday 21 June
The Field
The world's top players are out in force this week, led by Scheffler, who arrives seeking the one major championship missing from his collection. The world No. 1 has already conquered the Masters, PGA Championship and Open Championship, and victory this week would place him among golf's most exclusive company.
McIlroy continues his pursuit of a second U.S. Open crown after securing another Masters title earlier this season, while Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood all enter with realistic hopes of lifting the trophy on Sunday evening. Defending champion J.J. Spaun also returns looking to become the first player since Brooks Koepka to successfully defend the title.
There are no easy draws in a U.S. Open field, and the depth this year is exceptional. Former champions Justin Rose, Brooks Koepka and Fitzpatrick join major winners Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, while rising stars Chris Gotterup and Ludvig Åberg continue their search for a breakthrough major victory.
The Course
Shinnecock Hills remains one of the most revered championship venues in the game. The William Flynn masterpiece first hosted the U.S. Open in 1896 and has since become synonymous with major championship drama, producing iconic winners and unforgettable moments.
Playing as a par 70 measuring 7,440 yards, Shinnecock's challenge comes less from raw length and more from its exposed landscape, undulating fairways and brutally demanding green complexes. Wind often becomes the course's greatest defence, turning even straightforward shots into nervy propositions.
The last time the championship visited Shinnecock, Brooks Koepka successfully defended his title with a winning score of one over par. Players can expect another demanding week where patience, precision and bogey avoidance are every bit as valuable as birdie-making ability.
PGA Tour USA Open Best Bets
Tommy Fleetwood
His closing-round 63 at Shinnecock in 2018 remains one of the finest rounds ever recorded in a U.S. Open, finishing more than nine strokes better than the field average that day. Fleetwood arrives playing some outstanding golf once again, with two top-five finishes and a T11 in his last four starts. Among the players still searching for a maiden major championship, few appear better equipped to finally break through.
Jon Rahm
Rahm may not have won the PGA Championship, but it felt more like Aaron Rai took it from the field than the Spaniard letting it slip away. His confidence should remain sky high. Since missing the cut at Shinnecock in 2018, Rahm has made six consecutive U.S. Open cuts and captured the championship in 2021. His combination of power, patience and major championship pedigree makes him a serious threat once again.
PGA Tour US Open Value Bets
Si Woo Kim
The major championship record doesn't immediately jump off the page, but Kim's current form certainly does. The 30-year-old is enjoying the best season of his career, producing four podium finishes and 10 top-15 results thanks to elite tee-to-green play. Ranking fourth on TOUR in bogey avoidance only strengthens his appeal at a venue where limiting mistakes is critical.
Chris Gotterup
The New York native may be disappointed to miss the celebrations back home in Manhattan this week, but Shinnecock offers a perfect opportunity to create a memory of his own. Gotterup's blend of length, accuracy and improving putting has already delivered several impressive performances in big events, and his game appears tailor-made for the challenges this course presents.
