Bulldogs vs Cowboys Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 9 2026
Alarm bells are ringing
Against an understrength opponent in the Broncos, the Bulldogs suffered a disappointing 32-12 road loss in a display which lacked any creativity in attack. Down 20-nil at HT, the game was all but over as the Bulldogs continually lacked answers and looked unable to halt their opponent’s momentum. Despite 51% possession, they were limited due to their 72% completion rate, and ineffective with 10.2m per carry. They also made significantly more PCM’s (477 vs 595). Plenty of questions have been asked since that effort and the noise around the potential problems is only growing louder. It will only intensify if similar performances are produced.
Spirited but more is needed
The Cowboys delivered a stunning 46-34 home victory over the Sharks in Round 8 but have plenty of work to do moving forward. Leading 26-12 at HT, they let their opponents back into the contest; conceding 34 points is also of concern. Thankfully, they captured 2 competition points. With 51% possession, they completed at 80%, averaged 9.2m per carry, and had 12 line breaks. The positives are evident, but should they face a more capable team, they will be made to pay for their mistakes over 80 minutes; greater consistency is needed from them in all areas.
Stats that matter
- The home team has won just 50% of the past 6 games. Interestingly, the Bulldogs have a 54% record here compared to the Cowboys 43%.
- 3 of the past 5 games have been decided by fewer than 4 points. Overall, the average margin of victory in this time is 11.8 points, with the total points averaging 35.8.
- The Bulldogs have an inferior attack compared to the Cowboys (19ppg vs 26ppg) but have an edge defensively, allowing fewer points than their opponents in 2026 (23ppg vs 26ppg).
Too much attack may be too strong for rigid defence
The power of the Cowboys in attack is key to them winning this contest. If they can create continual defensive pressure against their opponents, they are a genuine chance of winning this game on the road. They have a clear edge over the Bulldogs in this area. The Bulldogs attack has appeared stagnant; they lack cohesiveness in the middle and appear to struggle to pressure their opponents with positive momentum or field position. They have also struggled defensively. This was once a focal point of their success but that appears to be absent now. The loss of Kikau compounds the issues for the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball. It appears the Cowboys have enough power to combat what the Bulldogs have in this game. It is an ugly contest to part ways with your money with and the confidence in both teams is low. The best option is to invest around this game being a close contest, supporting their scoring status over the 2026 season, with either winning by fewer than 2 converted tries.

Bulldogs vs Cowboys Same Game Multi
Leg 1 = Total points under 50.5 – see above for justification based off the recent history.
Leg 2 = Luki to score – not only has he scored 3 tries from his past 5 NRL matches, Luki has 3 tries in his past 2 against the Bulldogs, including 1 try at this venue.
Leg 3 = Preston to score – like Luki, he is a man in form. He not only has 3 tries from his past 4 matches against the Cowboys, but he has also gone the past 2 weeks without scoring; this is unusual for a player of Preston’s ability.
