Raiders vs Sharks Preview & Betting Tips: NRL Round 4 2026

March 28th 2026, 4:23pm, By: Ben Bridge

Raiders vs Sharks Betting Tips

Sunday afternoon in NRL Round 4 takes us to the nation’s capital, where the Canberra Raiders host the Cronulla Sharks in a matchup shaped by urgency, recent history and subtle betting market intrigue. Both sides enter this clash on two-game losing streaks, and with expectations high for both clubs in 2026, this already feels like a pressure point game.

Unlike other fixtures this round, there hasn’t been dramatic market movement here. The spread has held relatively steady, and the total has hovered around its opening number, a sign that bookmakers and bettors alike see this as a tightly contested, too close to call matchup.

That aligns with how these teams profile. Canberra’s game is built on physicality, territory and defensive resilience at home, while Cronulla rely on structure, spine cohesion and attacking execution. With both teams struggling to put complete performances together over the opening three rounds, this becomes less about ceiling and more about who can rediscover their baseline first. We bring you our full preview and betting tips for the game below!

Raiders vs Sharks Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 4 2026

Raiders Looking to Bounce Back After Two Straight Losses

Canberra’s 14-10 loss to the Bulldogs at GIO Stadium last week was a frustrating result, particularly given how much of the game they controlled. The Raiders had their chances, busting a massive 51 tackles to the Bulldogs 22, however in treacherous conditions they couldn’t execute when it mattered most.

Their forward pack struggled for the most part in the heavy conditions, and it was left to the outside backs to manage most of the yardage carries, with Tamale (277), Weekes (204), and Sasagi (155) the leading metres eaters for the Raiders. Jamal Fogarty’s kicking game was effective in pinning Canterbury deep, but the Raiders struggled to capitalise on attacking field position.

The key issue was execution inside the red zone. Several promising attacking sets broke down through handling errors or poor late set options, allowing the Bulldogs to absorb pressure and stay on top of the scoreboard. Despite generating more opportunities, Canberra were unable to build scoreboard pressure.

Defensively, the effort was strong. The Raiders limited Canterbury’s chances and scrambled well when required, but a couple of key lapses proved costly in a low scoring contest.

This was not a poor performance; it was an inefficient one. The Raiders did enough to win the game in most metrics, but their inability to convert pressure into points continues to be a concern.

Alarm Bells Ringing in the Shire

Cronulla’s 38- loss to the Dolphins at Shark Park was one of the more concerning performances of the round, particularly given the expectation that the Sharks would respond strongly after their defeat to Penrith the week prior.

Instead, they were outplayed in all key areas. The Dolphins controlled ruck speed, dominated territory and consistently won the yardage battle, leaving Cronulla on the back foot for extended periods. The Sharks struggled to generate momentum through the middle, with their forward pack unable to match the physicality of their opposition.

Their attack, usually structured and efficient, looked disjointed. Nicho Hynes had limited impact, often receiving the ball under pressure without the platform required to execute Cronulla’s attacking shapes. The Sharks’ inability to sustain possession meant they rarely threatened consistently in attacking zones.

Defensively, the issues were more concerning. Edge spacing and communication broke down under fatigue, allowing the Dolphins to create multiple scoring opportunities through quick shifts and support play. Once momentum swung, Cronulla had no answer.

Team news adds another layer this week, with Briton Nikora sidelined due to a broken nose, though the return of Teig Wilton helps offset that loss slightly.

This was a performance that raises genuine questions. Cronulla don’t just need to improve; they need to respond immediately.

Raiders vs Sharks Recent History

These sides split their two meetings last season, including a high-stakes finals clash. In the 2025 Semi Final, Cronulla delivered a statement performance, defeating Canberra 32–12 at GIO Stadium as 1.5-point underdogs to end the Raiders’ season.

Earlier in the year, Canberra claimed a 24–20 win in Round 5 at GIO Stadium as 4.5-point underdogs, highlighting how evenly matched these teams have been.

2025 Semi Final: Sharks def Raiders 32-12
2025 Round 5: Raiders def Sharks 24-20
2024 Round 8: Sharks def Raiders 40-0
2024 Round 4: Sharks def Raiders 36-22
2023 Round 27: Sharks def Raiders 24-6

Raiders to Sink Even Further in 2026

From a betting perspective, this is one of the more interesting games of the round, and one where I land quite differently to the market.

I have this game priced as a true pick’em, which immediately puts value on the Sharks at plus money. The current line suggests a slight lean toward Canberra, but when you strip this matchup back to fundamentals, there’s very little separating the two sides.

That said, the situational angles are significant.

Canberra has a clear revenge factor after being bundled out of the finals by Cronulla last season, and they return home after a loss in a game they arguably should have won. Historically, that’s a strong bounce back profile for the Raiders.

Cronulla, meanwhile, are under pressure after two poor performances, but they are also the more proven attacking side when their structure is functioning. The return of Teig Wilton helps stabilise their edge defence, even with Nikora out, and there is enough quality in their spine to expect a response.

The betting market reflects the uncertainty, minimal movement on both the spread and total suggests neither side has drawn strong confidence.

The total sits right on my number, so there’s no edge there, but the moneyline presents opportunity.

This shapes as a tight, physical contest, exactly the type of game where taking plus money in a coin-flip matchup is the sharp play.

One way or the other, Hudson Young is going to be attacking a brand-new Sharks’ right edge defence this week, with Briton Nikora missing on the right edge for the Sharks. Whether it’s Billy Burns or Teig Wilton moving to the right, they’ll need to gel quickly to stop Young from scoring his first of the season.
