NBA Betting Tips: Wednesday, January 14th 2026
Phoenix Suns at Miami Heat (11:30 am AEDT)
The Phoenix Suns (24–15) head to the Kaseya Center in strong form after winning three straight games. Defence has been the foundation of Phoenix’s season, with the Suns ranking among the league’s better defensive teams and allowing just over 112 points per game. Their ability to apply ball pressure and disrupt passing lanes continues to cause problems for opposing offences.
Devin Booker leads the way at 25.3 points per game, while Mark Williams has been a steady presence around the basket. Williams is shooting over 66 per cent from the field this season, placing him among the most efficient finishers in the league and giving Phoenix a reliable interior option.
Miami (20–19) comes in as a slight home favourite but has struggled to find consistency. The Heat lean heavily on Norman Powell’s scoring at 23.8 points per game and Kel’el Ware’s rebounding at 10.2 boards per game. When faced with disciplined defensive teams, Miami has at times found it difficult to sustain offence.
This shapes up as a tight contest, but Phoenix’s defensive pressure and current momentum give them a strong chance to control the game late. With their ability to force turnovers and convert efficiently, the Suns look well placed to get the job done.

San Antonio Spurs at Oklahoma City Thunder (12:00 pm AEDT)
A major Western Conference matchup sees the San Antonio Spurs (27–12) travel to Oklahoma City to face the league leading Thunder (33–7). San Antonio has been one of the strongest rebounding teams in the NBA this season, ranking near the top of the league and using that edge to control tempo and second chance opportunities.
De’Aaron Fox continues to provide consistent scoring at 20.7 points per game, while Victor Wembanyama anchors the Spurs inside on both ends of the floor. Defensively, San Antonio has been reliable, limiting opponents and avoiding costly mistakes.
Oklahoma City has been the benchmark team across the league, owning the best scoring defence and conceding just over 108 points per game. Shai Gilgeous Alexander remains in MVP form, averaging 31.9 points and 6.4 assists, and the Thunder are always dangerous at home.
That said, San Antonio has matched up extremely well in this series. The Spurs have won all three meetings between these teams this season, consistently disrupting Oklahoma City’s rhythm and controlling key stretches of each game. With their defensive discipline and ability to compete for four quarters, San Antonio looks well placed to keep this close once again.

Atlanta Hawks at Los Angeles Lakers (2:30 pm AEDT)
The Atlanta Hawks (20–21) travel to Crypto.com Arena to face the Los Angeles Lakers (23–14), who are looking to bounce back after a narrow loss to Sacramento. Atlanta plays at a fast pace and moves the ball well, ranking among the league’s better teams in assists. They score close to 118 points per game but often give much of it back on the defensive end.
Jalen Johnson has been a key contributor for Atlanta, carrying a heavy scoring and rebounding load. Defensive consistency remains the Hawks’ biggest issue, particularly on the road where breakdowns often lead to high scoring games.
The Lakers have been strong at home, shooting efficiently and using their size to control the paint. With LeBron now 41 years old, Luka Doncic is the clear offensive leader, dictating tempo and creating scoring opportunities for those around him. Even without Austin Reaves, Los Angeles has enough offensive options to exploit Atlanta’s defensive issues, particularly by attacking the rim and getting to the free throw line.
With both teams capable of putting points on the board, this game should be played at a good tempo. The Lakers’ efficiency at home and their physical edge inside give them the advantage in what should be a competitive matchup.
