Australia vs India 2nd ODI Preview & Betting Tips
Adelaide Oval, Thursday 23 October, 2:30pm AEDT
Australia
Squad: Mitchell Marsh, Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa
Australia will have some changes to the side, with Adam Zampa and Alex Carey both available after missing game one. Zampa will come straight back into the side with Matt Kuhnemann only in the squad for game one, however Josh Phillipe put in a strong performance in game one with 37 and three catches, meaning Australia may look at bringing Carey in as a batter.
Australia’s bowling attack led the way in a comfortable seven wicket win, in a rain reduced affair in game one. It was an even performance across the board with Josh Hazlewood (2/20), Mitch Owen (2/20), Matt Kuhnemann (2/26) all amongst the wickets as Australia reduced India to 9/136 from their 26 overs.
Captain Mitch Marsh continued his excellent white ball form for Australia, scoring an unbeaten 46 to lead his side to victory with more than four overs to spare. Josh Phillipe (37 off 29) and Matthew Renshaw (21* off 24) played handy cameos alongside the skipper. Marsh is averaging 76.85 across his last ten white ball games for Australia, with six scores of 40+.
India
Squad: Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal
India were disadvantaged batting first in a rain reduced game one, with multiple interruptions and changing of overs during their innings. However that doesn’t excuse their top order, who put their side in a big hole early. Rohit Sharma (8), Shubman Gill (10), Virat Kohli (0) and Shreyas Iyer (11) all fell cheaply, with India slumping to 4/45 - a return not befitting of arguably the best top four in world cricket.
It was an uphill battle with the ball, however India barely threatened with their attack struggling to contain the Australians. Nitish Kumar Reddy (7.38), Harshit Rana (6.75) and Arshdeep Singh (6.2) all went at over a run a ball, defending a small total.
India will need a bounce back from their top order, on what is traditionally an excellent batting track in Adelaide. Adelaide has been a happy hunting ground for India, who have won their last two ODI’s at the Adelaide Oval. Their last outing saw big performances by Virat Kohli (104) and Rohit Sharma (43), and India will need their experienced campaigners to produce the goods on Thursday.
Match Prediction
Despite some poor weather throughout the week in Adelaide, conditions look good for Thursday, with the forecast mostly sunny and only less than 1mm of rain forecasted. We should get a full 100 overs of cricket, which will benefit India’s batting unit. As mentioned earlier India have won their last two ODI’s at the Adelaide Oval against Australia, while the Aussies have lost two of their last three ODI’s in the city of churches.
After a disappointing showing in game one, expect a bounce back performance with the bat for India. Their batting lineup is too good not to respond, and they had one eight straight ODI’s before game one, led by the strength of their batting. Small square boundaries should suit India as well, allowing them to take more risks early. India will bounce back to even the series.
