A step backwards
Just as things were looking positive for the Eels heading into 2026, they produced a lacklustre performance against the Rabbitohs, eventually defeated 20-16. Conceding a 12-10 HT lead, they were impacted by a poor completion rate (70%). This nullified their 8.6m per carry and 9 line breaks as they continually allowed pressure to be released on their opponents. Even their strong defence (missed 26 tackles) is overlooked as they couldn’t close out the contest when it mattered most.
