Rabbitohs vs Dragons Preview & Betting Tips: NRL Round 25 2025

August 21st 2025, 12:02am, By: Scooby

Rabbitohs vs Dragons Betting Tips

With just 3 rounds remaining the tension is building regardless of where teams are placed on the ladder. NRL action begins in Sydney this week and with two teams seemingly out of contention for the title this season, this match may appear to matter little. It is anything but that as the Rabbitohs host the Dragons. There is always plenty to play for and they should prove as much in this match. Before You Bet is here to take a deeper look at what is ahead in an exciting matchup.

Rabbitohs vs Dragons Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 25 2025

Two on the bounce

The Rabbitohs made it two victories in as many weeks as they captured a gritty 20-16 victory over the Eels. Overcoming a 12-10 HT deficit, fighting their way back into the contest by being disciplined with the ball; with 50% possession, they completed at 86% and made 6 line breaks. It was improved on recent weeks, and they appeared a stronger team in attack with Walker back in the team. It hasn’t been a great season for this squad but the way they end can add positivity heading into the 2026 preseason.

A 20-minute team

The Dragons looked great early, jumping to a 10-nil victory early and showing strong signs defensively. Unfortunately, they allowed too many opportunities to their opponents and when it mattered, they couldn’t close out the match. It’s disheartening also considering their recent victories. They were not void of opportunities with 51% possession, an 85% completion rate, 8.8m per carry and 5 line breaks. They also only missed 22 tackles. As puzzling as the way they finished the match was, they need to refocus their attention as their slim Finals hopes could disappear with a loss here.

Stats that matter

The Rabbitohs have won 3 of the past 5 matches against the Dragons, including their Round 2 fixture 25-24. The average winning margin in this time is 13.8 points, with just 2 games decided by 12 points or less.

The Dragons have been the superior team in 2025 compared to their opponents. They average 21ppg in attack and concede 24ppg in defence. While not great, the Rabbitohs are worse with just 17ppg in attack and 26ppg in defence.

The Rabbitohs have the edge at home, winning 56% of matches compared to the Dragons 42%.

Toss a coin to decide

This game is close, far closer than the odds are suggesting (even though they’re tight). The Rabbitohs have (somehow) earned favouritism for this game. While they have been improved recently, a lot more would have to go right for them to be successful here. Koloamatangi’s impending return is a boost for them; the Dragons have three key omissions to combat also due to concussion. It still doesn’t mean they are incapable of winning. They have proven several times this season that they can put together and win. There is a slight lean towards the Rabbitohs given their rise in confidence and ability to still score points despite players only just returning to their side; another week with a match under their belt will serve them well here. Investing on either team is dangerous; given their performance so far in 2025, neither team evokes confidence in an investment. Therefore, investing around a tight game is the preferred option. The impending poor weather during this match further supports this selection.

Rabbitohs vs Dragons Same Game Multi

Leg 1 = Total points under 43.5 – it’s meant to be wet and wild in Sydney on Thursday and this will likely make points difficult to come by.

Leg 2 = Munro to score – he has scored a try in each of his past 3 matches at this venue. Having never played the Dragons and scoring 2 tries in the past 3 weeks, he might be the surprise packet on the wing for the home side.

Leg 3 = Either team by 12 points or less – provides a safety net and links to the Suggested Bet. It is purely in this bet to increase the return on your investment.

Scooby's strength is assessing the overall team - what they offer across the field in a match and how the ethos of a club contributes to their success. Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.

Other sports he enjoys include Cricket, Horse Racing and NFL. There is a reason why Scooby ‘clicked’ with BYB from Day 1 - he loves his sport as much as we do.
