Looking like anything but the 17th placed team, they were measured with a 90% completion rate and 54% possession. This level of execution has been missing from their game for some time now. It allowed them to make 9.1m per carry, 5 line breaks and 659 PCM’s. Their defence was also good, missing just 21 tackles and allowing only 4 line breaks. It was an unusually good performance from them.
The Panthers made yet another loud statement in their 36-2 drubbing of the Tigers at home. Playing with confidence on both sides of the ball, it was a dazzling display as they scored 6 tries and kept their opponents away from the try line. Having 55% possession and completing at 88% set the standard, supported by 9.9m per carry and 7 line breaks. They have improvement left within them; they missed 30 tackles, and the better teams might make them pay for their mistakes in the future.
The Panthers have won 10 of the past 11 matches against the Titans. It may explain why they have a 69% win record at this ground compared to the Titans 44%.
The average margin of victory in the past 5 matches is 18 points, with blowout scores of 14, 26 and 36 points to the Panthers.
The Panthers are the superior team this season in both attack and defence. They score 23ppg in attack compared to the Titans 20ppg, with the real difference coming defensively. The Titans leak 28ppg in 2025 while the Panthers are always improving, allowing just 18pgg this year.
As good as last week was for Titans, the challenge of winning this game appears to be beyond them. The Panthers are a team which is only getting stronger as the Finals approach. With time limited, they will want to ensure they are in the best position to succeed; there is still a chance that they can finish inside the Top 8. That is motivation enough for them to want to win this contest and they will be driven by performing well on the back of a strong effort last week. The decision in this game comes down to how much the Panthers will win this match by and where the value can be found. The point scoring tallies of each so far this season suggests that the Titans will leak points. Recently, the Panthers defence has averaged 7 points in the past 4 matches and haven’t conceded more than 18 points since Round 12. This is overlooked and again will be a cornerstone of their performance in this match.
