A run-fest of 1,452 combined runs in the fourth Test saw the match drawn with only 24 wickets falling across the five days. England leads India 2-1 with the fifth and final Test to be played at The Oval on Thursday, July 31st, at 8:00pm (AEST).

England vs India: 5th Test Betting Tips
Root Shines Once Again
The fourth Test match saw former captain Joe Root at his brilliant best with 150 runs. One of the finest players to ever play for England, Root recorded his 38th Test match century as the English batters had their way with India’s bowlers, posting 669 all out. Captain Ben Stokes smashed 141 runs, and while Root and Stokes got the glory, credit goes to the top three, including under-pressure opener Zak Crawley scoring 84, along with Ben Duckett’s 94 as the pair notched 166 runs before the first wicket fell. Ollie Pope then scored 71 at number three.
Stokes was everywhere in the match with the allrounder picking up a brilliant 5/72 from his 24 overs as England knocked India over for 358. In India’s second innings, it was tough going for the English bowlers as the match ended in a draw after India had recorded 4/425.
The big question leading in is whether quick Jofra Archer will play. Former pace bowler Stuart Broad has urged England to rest Archer, and that may be a wise decision with the Ashes just around the corner.
Predicted England XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope (c), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue
*Ben Stokes has since been ruled out*
Bumrah and Pant out, Singh to debut
India have suffered not one, but two cruel blows ahead of the fifth Test match with superstar pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah ruled out along with wicketkeeper and entertaining batter Rishabh Pant. Akash Deep is the likely replacement, and Dhruv Jurel will continue to be behind the stumps after covering for Pant’s injuries in the third and fourth Tests, although Pant did keep a little.
Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm medium-fast bowler, looks set to make his Test debut for the visitors. Singh has played nine ODIs and 63 T20Is for India and has taken 66 wickets at 30.37 from 21 first-class matches.
Most of India’s top order batters got a chance for some quality time at the crease in the fourth Test with captain Shubman Gill, and allrounders Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja all recording centuries in their second innings. KL Rahul scored 90 also before being dismissed by Ben Stokes.
The same could not be said for the Indian bowlers last Test with Jadeja taking 4/143 as England posted a mammoth 669. With bat dominating ball in the match, England never batted again, so we didn’t get a chance to see how the bowlers would have performed in the fourth innings of the match.
Predicted India XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj
Here's Our England vs India 5th Test Tip
The absence of Jasprit Bumrah is a big one in a must-win Test for India who desperately need to tie the series 2-2 to retain the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. England on the other hand can play for a draw as that would leave them 2-1 victors for the series.
England were 49-run winners over Australia in the 2023 Ashes series at The Oval, and have typically played well against India at this venue. England’s top order found some form in the drawn Test and their side looks more stable as injuries continue to hurt India.
Another draw could be on the cards, but I think England pack enough firepower to pick up 20 Indian wickets in the final Test to close out a 3-1 series win as they look ahead to Australia.
