West Indies vs Australia 5th T20I Preview & Betting Tips
Same Old Story
Another good performance with the bat, another 200+ score, another good start with the ball, another loss. It’s rinse and repeat for the West Indies who failed to defend a target of 206, to lose their fourth straight game in the series. The bowling again was the major issue, with four of their five bowlers going at economy rates of 9.5 or greater.
It was made worse by the fact it was their experienced bowlers who let them down, with Romario Shepherd (1/59), Matthew Forde (0/43), Akeal Hosein (1/36 off 3.2) and Jason Holder (1/38) getting plenty of tap. Youngster Jediah Blades bounced back from a tough debut in game four, taking 3/29 to be the pick of the Windies attack.
There was a better spread on contributions with the bat for the hosts, particularly from their middle and lower order. The West Indies scored 9/205, with Sherfane Rutherford’s 31 off 15 the top score. They got valuable contributions from the bottom five as Romario Shepherd (28 off 18), Jason Holder (26 off 16), Matthew Forde (15 off 7) and Akeal Hosein (16* off 10) getting the West Indies to 205.
Will They Ever Lose Again?
Seven wins on the bounce, 11 wins out of their last 12, 19 wins from their last 22 games. Australia are on fire in the T20I arena, and their batting unit continues to fire in this series, and completed another successful chase in game four, to reach the target of 206 with four balls to spare.
Glenn Maxwell got things going early with the bat, scoring 47 off 18 balls with six maximums to get Australia ahead of the required run rate early. Josh Inglis scored another half century, while Cam Green proved to be the main man, with an unbeaten 55 off 33 deliveries. Green has 173 runs at an average of 86.50 this series including three half centuries, while Inglis has scored 162 runs at 54 with a strike rate of 210.
While Maxwell’s batting was incredible, his fielding provided equally crucial in the result, taking two catches and producing a remarkable assist on the boundary to allow Cameron Green to catch Romario Shepherd. Aaron Hardie (2/24) was brilliant in his first game of the series, while Nathan Elliss was crucial at the death, going at less than a run a ball in his spell of 0/21.
West Indies vs Australia Tip
Each game consistently pans out the same way, the Windies show promise with the bat, fail to capitalise at the back end of their innings, and their bowling lets them down. Shai Hope has made runs in this series, but his captaincy has been nothing short of horrendous especially given the talent and experience he has at his disposal.
Australia’s batting unit has been red hot this series with Green, Inglis, Maxwell and Owen providing excellent contributions. The lineup will get stronger with Tim David likely to come back into the team for the final game of the series. The West Indies form in T20I cricket has been horrendous over the last year, with only two wins from their last 18 games, despite playing most of those fixtures at home. Australia will cap off a perfect tour with a 5-0 T20I sweep to go with their 3-0 Test series sweep.
