The final game on NRL Super Saturday heads to Townsville as the Cowboys host the Bulldogs. Still struggling for consistency, the Cowboys will be out to capture a win and maintain contact with the Top 8. The Bulldogs have dropped to 3rd on the ladder and with discontent growing within the playing group, will want to win to regain confidence ahead of a run towards the Finals. An exciting contest is ahead and Before You Bet is here to help find a winner by previewing at the action ahead.

The Cowboys missed a key chance to grab a victory over a weakened Storm team, failing to make the most of chances given to them in the match. It means they have won just 2 of their past 9 matches and in desperate need of a change. They were their own worst enemy with just 46% possession and a 74% completion rate increasing the difficulty of winning. Despite this, they still averaged 9.2m per carry but had an inferior PCM total (515 vs 682) and allowed their opponents too many opportunities courtesy of 35 missed tackles. Hopefully, that loss doesn’t hurt them too much moving forward.
The signing of Galvin was always going to gather negative attention when anything went wrong. Unfortunately for them, player departure news and a loss to the Broncos last week hasn’t helped their cause. Despite jumping to a 16-nil HT lead, the Bulldogs – minus their Origin stars – were unable to hold out their fast-finishing opponents, conceding 22 points in the second half. A horror 73% completion rate didn’t help their cause, nor did their 31 missed tackles. They unusually averaged just 7.9m per carry and made fewer PCM’s than their opponents, with just 2 line breaks to their name. If there is trouble, they will need to bounce back quickly here to silence the outside noise.
The Bulldogs have won just 2 of the past 8 matches against the Cowboys, with just a 33% record at this ground (Cowboys 54%).
Despite 3 of the past 5 games being decided by 2 points or less, the average margin of victory is 11.4 points, with a blowout 38 point victory to the Cowboys at the end of last season.
The Bulldogs have the edge this year in both attack and defence. They score an average of 23ppg and concede just 17ppg compared to the Cowboys 21ppg in attack and 29ppg in defence.
It is time for the Bulldogs to returning to their winning ways. Despite the increased challenging of having to head north to Townsville to do it, they are still well placed to achieved victory. The Origin players for each team are expected to back-up from Wednesday, with this only causing further issues for the Bulldogs. Nevertheless, they have faced tougher situations this year and passed strongly. This is another one of those situations and they can make a statement with a win. It will be close though; the ‘Stats that matter’ section highlights how close contests are between these two sides. More of the same is predicted, with the Bulldogs prevailing by less than 2 converted tries.
Leg 1 = Cowboys +12.5 – see above for the reason why; including this option only increases the value available.
Leg 2 = Xerri to score – he hasn’t scored in the past 5 matches but still is second for the Bulldogs this season with 7 tries. He will want to make a statement and return to form in this game with the Finals approaching.
Leg 3 = has 9 tries to his name in 14 games this season, the second-most for the Cowboys. He is a great finished and will want to add to his season tally after scoring last week.

Scooby is our NRL guru with over ten years experience writing about rugby league with Before You Bet and previously at The Profits. His background is in playing and coaching but he's enjoyed the switch to share his knowledge through his articles, as well as sharing his thoughts on Twitter.
Scooby's strength is assessing the overall team - what they offer across the field in a match and how the ethos of a club contributes to their success. Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.
Other sports he enjoys include Cricket, Horse Racing and NFL. There is a reason why Scooby ‘clicked’ with BYB from Day 1 - he loves his sport as much as we do.
