West Coast vs GWS Prediction & Betting Tips: 2025 AFL Round 17

Eagles’ Nest Emptied of Confidence

After their first win of the season back in Round 10 against the Saints, the Eagles have gone on to lose their last five games, the most recent of which a pretty competitive effort against the Pies. Some weeks they look like a competent AFL team, as they did on the weekend, going down by just 29 points to the premiership favourites, but that is about as good as it has been this season for the Eagles, who sit in last place with a 1-14 record. They do, however, have a chance to take something from this season, with four games against bottom six sides in the run home.

On the March: Giants Surging With September in Sight

It’s an absolute must win for the Giants as they travel out west. They currently sit in 9th place on the ladder, outside of the top eight on percentage alone. They have won four of their last five games, and were too good for the Suns in the expansion cup in their last clash. Trailing by 22 points at the start of the fourth quarter, the Giants kicked eight goals to three in the final term to claim a seven point win at home. The dynamic Giants forward line was in full swing, with Cadman, Stringer, Riccardi, Hogan, Greene and Brown all kicking multiple goals.

Rested and Reloaded: GWS Eye Post-Bye Boost

Every week is a big week at the selection table at the moment for the Giants. The Giants welcomed back a few key players in Stringer and Greene against the Suns, and will now be hoping they can add a few more after having the bye in Round 16. Stephen Coniglio and Kieren Briggs both look set to make their return, while key defender Sam Taylor is another few weeks away. For the Eagles, it’ll largely be business as usual as they continue to blood plenty of youth on a weekly basis, while key players in Oscar Allen, Jake Waterman and Elliot Yeo remained sidelined.

Eagles or Giants? Here’s our West Coast vs GWS Tip

Surprised at how low this line is opening here. Sure the Eagles have been more competitive of late, but 22.5 seems a touch low considering how dominant the Giants forward line has looked. The Eagles have lost their last five by an average margin of 36.4 points and have covered that 22.5 point spread just once across those five games, a 10 point loss to the Roos. I think this GWS forward line will be far too much for them to handle here, even without a couple of their key cogs.

West Coast vs GWS Player Prop Bet

Our Best Player Prop: Jake Riccardi 2+ Goals

Jake Riccardi has been the beneficiary of a loaded Giants forward line over the last month. Has often been getting the third or fourth best opposition defender, and a player of his quality demands far better than that. Has kicked 10 goal in his last five games.

Jake Riccardi 2+ Goals

Eagles vs Giants Same Game Multi

Liam Baker 20+ Disposals - Has been in fantastic accumulating form of late, picking up at least 20 touches in his last four straight games and 13 of 15 games in total this year. Averaging 23.2 per game this season and had 24 against the Giants earlier this year.

Finn Callaghan 25+ Disposals - Has been a machine all year, particularly since coming back from injury in Round 14. In his two games back in the line-up he has racked up 32 and 28. Has surpassed 25 in all but three games this season.

Lachie Ash 25+ Disposals - Don’t usually like to double dip on high disposal numbers from players on the same team but I think the Giants should dominate this game so much so that there will be plenty of ball to go around. Ash has had 25+ in 14/15 games this season, not failing to do so since Round 1.
