June 20th 2025, 6:02pm, By: Ben Bridge

NRL Broncos vs Sharks Tips

NRL Sunday will kick off with a huge clash in Brisbane, as the Broncos take on the Sharks. The Broncos are looking to build momentum after their huge win over the Titans before their bye, with the return of Reece Walsh seemingly igniting their attack. On the other side, the Sharks will be looking to regain their mojo, having lost two of their past three.

Broncos vs Sharks Predictions & Tips: 2025 NRL Round 16

Are the Broncos Back, or Was it a Flash in the Pan?

The Broncos are fresh off the bye, having last played in Round 14 when they hosted the Titans at Suncorp. They got contributions from all over the park, particularly in the outside backs, where they have struggled this season. Kotoni Staggs had a monster game, running for 173 metres whilst scoring a try, setting up another, busting 7 tackles, and breaking the line twice. Reece Walsh also looked back to his best, scoring two tries, whilst setting up another, whilst Josiah Karapani and Gehamat Shibasaki were also heavily involved. Was this an opponent driven bounce back to form, or are the Broncos ready to start their surge towards the finals? This is the question we must ask heading into a game against a particularly good side in the Sharks.

Is it Time to Write the Sharks Off for the Premiership?

The Sharks come into Round 16 off a nice win last week, defeating the Dragons 30-18 at home. Despite the 12-point win, there were still some concerns for the Sharks, particularly in the first half as they trailed 18-6 at the break. They looked a lot better after the break, running in three tries in nine minutes to lead 22-18, before putting the game away late. Much like the Broncos, we must ask if this win a reversal in form for the Sharks, or was it opponent driven? The Sharks looked a good shout for the top 4 throughout the opening three months of the competition, even sitting third in Premiership markets, however they have drifted in the eyes of the market, with punters seemingly close to writing the Sharks off for another year. Huge game here for the Shire boys to prove the market wrong.

Broncos vs Sharks Recent History

The Broncos hold a sold 7-3 record over the Sharks in the past 10 matches between the teams, however they have not met twice in a season since 2021. They’ve only met once since 2019 at Shark Park, with the Broncos winning the last two games at the venue. At Suncorp, the Sharks have won two of the past three, indicating they won’t be overawed at the famous venue.

The last time these teams met was in Round 14 last season at Suncorp Stadium, with the Broncos closing 5.5-point home favourites, with a total of 47.5. With both teams missing some big names (Sharks were missing Nicho Hynes, Broncos were without Adam Reynolds and Reece Walsh), the Sharks were dominant, outgaining the Broncos by 650 metres on their way to a 22-12 victory. It was a tale of two halves, as the Broncos shot out of the gate to lead 12-4 at the break, but the Sharks took command in the second half, running in three tries in seven minutes just after half time to take the lead and hold on for the win.

Too Close to Call in Battle of Finals’ Contenders

The Broncos were listed as 5.5-point favourites on the look ahead line, before opening at the same number. After team lists were revealed on Tuesday afternoon, some money has come in on the Sharks, who are between 4.5 and 4.5-point dogs now, depending on where you bet. My number is pretty close to this, though I would have a slight lean to the Sharks here to cover the spread. The Sharks have covered two of the three games they have closed as underdogs this season, whilst the Broncos have struggled as favourites, covering just three of 12 games they have closed as favourites.

Looking at the total, and it opened 48.5 and hasn’t budged all week. My fair total for this game is 48, so from a pure numbers perspective there doesn’t seem like a ton of value in the total. Both teams are close to 50/50 throughout the year in terms of overs/unders, and I really don’t see any bet here on the total.

This is the closest game to a pass all week for me, and in my honest opinion is a pass. However, if you want some skin in the game, I’d advocate a small wager on the Sharks to cover the spread, in a game that is of the highest importance to both teams.

Broncos vs Sharks Player Prop Bet: Reece Lightning To Cross

Walsh looked tremendous two weeks ago for the Broncos against the Titans, and I expect him to play a huge part in the game on Sunday afternoon. Five tries in eight games this season isn’t a huge return, but I see him adding to his tally this week.

Reece Walsh (1+ try)

Broncos vs Sharks Same Game Multi

Leg 1: Sharks (+7.5) – We will take the Sharks to keep this within a converted try and the added safety of a field goal.

Leg 2: R Walsh (1+ try) – See Best Prop Bet.

Leg 3: S Talakai (1+ try) – Talakai has scored tries in his past two games against the Broncos and gets the start at left centre this week for the Sharks. Takes on Kotoni Staggs, whom he has got the better of before. I’ll back the powerful centre here at good odds.
