Geelong vs Gold Coast Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2025 Round 13
Geelong Building Nicely
As they have been for nearly 20 years, the Cats are positioned nicely nearing the halfway mark of the season. Geelong have won four of their last five games, and produced an excellent fourth quarter performance to run over the Eagles last week. Geelong’s stars are leading the way, with Bailey Smith recording 30+ disposals in five straight games, while Jeremy Cameron has kicked 5+ goals in each of the last three games. The Cats are the second highest scoring team in the competition, and the number one tacking team in the AFL.
Taking the Next Step
In Damien Hardwick’s second season, Gold Coast have made some massive strides, sitting in the top four for nearly the entirety of the season to date. One thing that has eluded the Suns however is consistently performing against the best teams in the AFL. Part of that factor is that they have had a soft fixture, only playing four of the current top eight teams. Gold Coast are 2-2 against the top eight this season, and could be 1-3 if it wasn’t for some fortunate umpiring decisions against Adelaide. They failed a test at home against Fremantle last, can they perform in one of the most challenging away matches in the AFL?
The Stats That Matter
Geelong and Gold Coast are two of the best attacking teams in the competition, ranking 2nd and 4th respectively in points per game. Both clubs have balanced scoring profiles, ranking in the top two for scores from forward half, top four for scores from stoppages, top four scores from turnover and top six for scores from centre bounce.
The ground ball battle also looms as a massive factor in this game with Geelong ranking sixth in the AFL for ground balls and the Suns ranking seventh. Both clubs rank in the top four for forward 50 ground ball gets, the big ask for Gold Coast will be whether they can apply as much pressure as Geelong to limit their ground ball game. The Cats are ranked 1st in the AFL for tackles, 1st for tackles inside 50 and 1st for pressure acts. So not only are Geelong elite at ground level, but they’re excellent at preventing their opponents from being great on the ground.
Cats or Suns? Here’s our Geelong vs Gold Coast Tip
The Suns have won their last two games against Geelong, however those games were in Darwin and Gold Coast. Geelong have a 7-0 record against the Suns at GMHBA Stadium, with an average winning margin of 72 points. Geelong have won by 50+ points five times, with Gold Coast only getting within five goals of the Cats once at their home ground.
Obviously this is the best Suns side to ever head to GMHBA Stadium, however the lack of experience of winning in Geelong is a massive hurdle for the Suns to overcome. Geelong are 3-1 at Kardinia Park this season, with an average winning margin of 43 points, and are averaging 115 points per game at the Cattery. Geelong’s stars are in red hot form, and the Cats will continue their winning ways.
