It all comes down this as the world number one and world number two clash for the Australian Open title. We leave Melbourne Park tonight with either a back-to-back Australian Open champion, or a grand slam winner for the first time!
Jannik Sinner hasn’t been playing his best tennis this Australian Open, but the Italian has still found a way through to the final having only dropped two sets. The lost set against Tristan Schoolkate was more a case of blowing out the cobwebs, and the lost set against Holger Rune was at a point where the Italian looked at his worst on court physically. Sinner managed to break Ben Shelton at 5-6* in the first set, and never looked back in the semi-final, with his aggressive positioning and ability to take the ball early helping him secure a decisive victory.
It almost feels as though Alexander Zverev has flown under the radar this tournament as the world number 2. The German came into the tournament with a question mark over his arm issue that caused him to pull out midway through the United Cup, but he put any fears to bed with a strong first couple of matches. There have been a couple of hiccups along the way, including dropping a set to Ugo Humbert and starting very slowly against Tommy Paul, but the German has found his way out of trouble quite well overall. He also comes into the final fresh, having played only 1 set in his semi-final against Novak Djokovic.
This is going to be a closely contested battle. I like the Alexander Zverev over 18.5 total games as the option that stands out for what should be a fantastic finals clash.
