Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday March 23rd

March 22nd 2024, 5:26pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Moonee Valley Racing Tips

Moonee Valley is hosting Saturday Racing in Victoria this week with the Group 1 William Reid Stakesheadlining the program. Imperatriz will be the favourite despite drawing barrier 10 on the tight circuit. The weather looks fine and another Good track should be in order for runners. Race 1 starts at 12:05pm (AEDT) and one of my three tips for the day comes up in that race which is over 2040m.

Find our best bets for the Valley below and be sure to head over to our Racing Tips for more free tips from around the country this Saturday!

Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday, March 23rd 2024

Race 1: Andy Warr Memorial Handicap - 12:05pm (AEDT)

(5) Aristonous has been running out his races quite nicely and even though he will settle back again in this one, he does look as though he is ready for another crack at distance despite having never won over it previously. Against Another Wil last start he was the second fastest finisher and he did get too far back from barrier 12 that day. He has a better barrier here (6) and drops half a kilo for his efforts.

(4) Magnaspin gets the winkers on after a poor run last start and that just might spark him up. He has won over the track & distance and he should get a good run, settling in around 4th position.

(1) Marquess has drawn inside and may take it up in the early stages. This race is easier than his recent attempts and he does enjoy a Dry track.

(5) Aristonous

$4 (1 Unit)

Race 3: Ascend Sales Trophies Handicap - 1:05pm (AEDT)

(1) Strawberry Rock carries three extra kilos after running a Good 3rd at Flemington last start but he is very fit and he gets another Good track here which he enjoys. The extra 500m looks like it might be right up his alley and despite not having won for nine months now, this does look like a very winnable race. Melham is on and he has placed on Strawberry Rock in all three starts. From barrier 8, he might settle midfield with cover and look to be strong late.

(3) Yarrawonga was a beaten favourite last start (9L) but he is better than that and improvement is expected. He remains at 2500m but may want the track a little softer.

(7) Son of Solly has drawn wide in 12 which makes it hard. A Dry track suits though and he is in winning form after getting the money at Hillside last start. Does step up in class though and his run at The Valley two starts back was just fair.

(1) Strawberry Rock

$3.60 (2 Units)

Race 10: Ladbroke It! Handicap - 5:35pm (AEDT)

(8) Papillon Club is one at odds here i reckon. She has drawn well in 2 and should get a gun run just off the speed and the mare does go well fresh. She raced against very good company during Melbourne’s Spring and this race is of lower class than that. She likes the track, likes the distance and is juicy odds. When she resumed in 2023, she was close up behind Benedetta who would win this.

(2) Grand Impact may need a wetter track but a win wouldn’t surprise either. He hasn’t raced for a long time but is in good hands (Price & Kent Jnr). Has won 3 from 4 but may be better with weight relief in a few weeks.

(3) Boldhino will go forward and should go well on the Dry track. Barrier 14 is the concern though because he might get caught wide in the run. Is carrying a bit of weight and he might be better in April when he gets weight allowance.

(8) Papillon Club E/W

$16/$4 (0.5 Units)
