2023 Melbourne Cup Day Racing Tips

Race 1: Darley Maribyrnong Plate Group 3 - 10:45pm (AEDT)

(7) Odinson is a first starter from the Maher & Eustace camp and he cost $320,000 at the sales. Limited information on this one but banking on leading trainers here.

(5) Catoggio is a first starter for the in-form Waterhouse & Bott stable after they won multiple races on Derby Day.

(4) Blue Stratum is the likely fav and he was emergency last week and didn’t get a run. Damien Lane is on.

(2) Dublin Down has race experience and ran on well for 2nd at Bendigo.

(7) Odinson - WIN

$4.00 (1 Unit)

Race 2: Furphy Plate - 11:20pm (AEDT)

(6) Lord Vladivostok we tipped on this site in the last race on Derby Day and the Michael Hickmott trained gelding just had no luck. He was 6th on the rails and never got out (9th). It did look as though he had plenty to offer.

(4) Forgot You has drawn well in barrier 3 and he did run on well when 3rd at The Valley last start.

(7) Mr Maestro has won twice at Flemington previously and has won 2 from 3 over this distance. He got too far back at Caulfield last start and this track suits him better.

(5) Warning is another who likes this track but this distance might be too short. He likes Dry tracks and a placing at odds wouldn’t surprise.

(6) Lord Vladivostok - WIN

$4.50 (2 Units)

Race 3: TAB Trophy - 12:00pm (AEDT)

(10) Queen of Dragons has been slow out of late but with a bigger track here hopefully it won’t matter as much if he is again. He was 7th last start at Rosehill but only beaten 2.5L and with a bit of pace on here she will be fast late.

(2) Aztec State has drawn wide in 10 but will still start favourite. The Hayes team knows how to win a race on Melbourne Cup Day and he was only beaten under a length last time at Caulfield.

(3) Binotto was only beaten half a length when 4th at The Valley last start before trialing up pretty well at Mornington when 2nd. Oliver on.

(7) Warmonger has had 1 start for 1 win on the Dry. Ran on well for a victory at Mornington last start after the leaders went too hard.

(10) Queen of Dragons - WIN

$5.50 (2 Units)

Race 4: The Schweppervescance Plate - 12:40pm (AEDT)

(1) Barber has been scratched on numerous occasions over the last couple of months but this race does look suitable after he won a jumpout at Flemington last week. He has won 2 races on Good tracks previously. He was unplaced behind King’s Gambit and Ozmosis last start and we know Ozmosis won well in a Group 1 race on Saturday at Flemington.

(3) Stanislaus has drawn inside and is another who likes Good tracks. He got up by a nose at Rosehill last start and ran well in a trial behind Ozmosis last week who went on to win on Derby Day.

(4) Jewel Bay has had 6 starts and the worst he has finished is 4th. He will roll forward and will try and pinch it.

(5) Wiggum has Ollie on and he is another who will settle on pace. He likes Dry tracks but this is his biggest test yet at Flemington.

(1) Barber - WIN

$3.00 (2 Units)

Race 5: The Macca’s Run - 1:20pm (AEDT)

(3) Mr Waterville with the combination of Chris Waller and Joe Moreira looks hard to beat in this 2800m assignment. He came from well back last start at Geelong to finish 4th and this track should suit him better with the long straight. He hasn’t placed in a while but his last run was in a Group 3 race so this is easier.

(7) Supagirl was a strong Horsham winner last time but this is obviously a lot harder. The stable is in form and this mare does enjoy running on Good tracks.

(5) King’s Crossing is consistent and does run well for Damien Lane. Did win on Geelong Cup Day and should be even fitter third up.

(4) Team Captain is another who likes Dry tracks and is third up. Value runner.

(3) Mr Waterville - WIN

$2.90 (2 Units)

Race 6: Mss Security Subzero Handicap - 1:55pm (AEDT)

(2) Glint of Silver runs a lot of placings but can win with Zac Purton on top. His NSW form of late is only fair but he has won a Group 2 race previously. His last start was also in a Group 3 where he finished 11th but didn’t have much luck.

(1) Love Tap is in the in-form Freedman stable and got too far back at Randwick last time. The long straight of Flemington should suit.

(4) Berkshire Breeze is an interesting runner from the Maher & Eustace stable. Comes from overseas and is first up.

(9) Platinum Wolf is consistent and has an in-form jockey on in Craig Newitt. He has been racing well in Adelaide and can fill a placing. Likes Dry tracks.

(12) Mysweetmoses made up late ground at The Valley last time when 5th. Drops 2kg for this and has placed in 3 of his last 4 starts.

(2) Glint of Silver - WIN

$6.00 (1 Unit)

Race 7: Lexus Melbourne Cup GROUP 1 - 3pm (AEDT)

Race 8: Howden Desirable Stakes - 3:50pm (AEDT)

(13) Commemorative for Team Cummings and JMac looks good here in his 3rd race start. She should get a gun run from barrier 3 and position up around 4th in the run before getting a split down the straight. She was 2nd at Randwick last start when beaten a nose and the extra 200m here looks suitable.

(10) Joliestar has drawn wide in 18 but with luck will be running on at the end after dropping 3 kg in weight, JMac is off but Morieira is on,

(4) Facile tried hard last start when 2nd when fancied in the market and should be at 100 percent fitness now. She was only beaten a neck and the extra 200m should suit her too.

(3) Kimochi has drawn awkwardly in 11 and Gary Portelli has set her for this. She has run top 3 in all of her 7 races so a Place bet looks ideal again.

(13) Commemorative - WIN

$3.00 (2 Units)

Race 9: The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes - 4:35pm (AEDT)

(8) La Danseuse Rouge is the new tip after the scratching of Kazou on Monday morning. He has drawn well in 5 and has been running consistently of late. Lane is on and he has placed on her before and the Cliff Brown trained mare has placed in half of her career starts on the Good.

(2) Skew Wiff is consistent and was 6th behind Wrote to Arataki last strat in the Group 2 Tristarc. Barrier 12 is a little wide and she will likely have to run around them.

(1) Madame Pommery has been racing better than her form suggests. She has also drawn wide but you get the feeling she has been set for this.

(9) Cardigan Queen likes Dry ground which she gets and the tips should be ideal after 3 runs in from a spell.

(8) La Danseuse Rouge - WIN

$5.00 (1 unit)

Race 10: Paramount+ Trophy - 5:15pm (AEDT)

(2) Inver Park was unlucky last start at Randwick when 11th and this race is easier than the Group 3 Sydney Stakes that he competed in last time. Jamie Spencer rides from barrier 3 and he shouldn’t get too wide like he was last start. He has won over this distance before and he likes Good ground. Nice odds.

(3) Chicago Storm smashed them at Gawler last start but this is harder. He does go up 4.5kg in weight but Mark Zahra is on and he is in fine form.

(7) Dubai Poet couldn’t get out when 7th at Hillside last start and he then went on to win a Mornington jumpout last week. Damien Lane has won on him before.

(8) Rise of the Masses drops 6kg for this assignment but has drawn wide in barrier 16.

(2) Inver Park - WIN

$9.00 (1 Unit)
