Knights vs Dragons Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 16 2026

Spirited and close, but they should’ve won

Few gave the Knights a chance against the Storm in Melbourne in Round 14, but the Knights were agonisingly close to causing an upset as they were defeated 32-30. Trailing 14-12 at HT, there were a genuine chance of causing an upset, disrupting their opponent’s momentum and willingness to dominate the contest. Ultimately, they will take ownership of the result as they were poor in areas of their execution. Had that not been the case, it could have seen a different outcome. Areas such as possession (44%), completion rate (71%), and missed tackles (36) must be improved upon. Amazingly, they still averaged 9.6m per carry and created 9 line breaks. Such efforts with a poor result indicate that they are a team heading in the right direction.

A win, quickly forgotten

Following their spirited upset victory over the Broncos in Round 13, there was a genuine sense that the Dragons would be strong and possibly, could cause an upset against the Sharks on the road. That only grew stronger as they lead 12-6 at HT. Unfortunately, when their opponents increased the intensity in the second half, they were unable to match them consistently, eventually defeated 34-12 following a scoreless second half for them. It was always going to be challenging with less possession (47%) and a 78% completion rate, which saw them make 8.4m per carry, and just 3 line breaks. Their defence was a major issue, allowing 9.5m per carry, 565 PCM’s, 9 line breaks, and missing 28 tackles. Hopefully, a week off with the bye has refocussed them in their quest to move from last placed on the competition ladder.

Stats that matter

- The Dragons have a strong record at this ground with a 75% strike rate, winning 18 matches from 24 played here. The Knights have won 54% of matches at home.

- In the past 5 matches between these two sides, the average margin of victory is 18.6 points. That includes the Knights 44-10 Round 10 victory earlier this season. Interestingly, the total points margins have been low, with the average sitting at 40.2 points, with the most recent match the largest.

- It is no surprise that the Knights are the superior team on both sides of the ball this season. They average 28ppg in attack and 26ppg in defence. The Dragons struggle in attack, managing just 14ppg and conceding a massive 32ppg defensively.

Knights should have their night of nights

They have toiled away this season and upon surprising most teams, should reap the rewards for their persistence with a strong performance in this match. There is no doubt that they are the stronger of the two sides; despite talk of resting their Origin stars, the Knights have Best returning to their starting team. The Dragons have demonstrated recent improvement but the true sign of a team that has turned a corner is consistency. This was absent in the second half against the Sharks, and it is likely to be their downfall in this match too. They will be competitive, perhaps even forcing the Knights into uncomfortable positions during the match. Coming off a Bye will only help the home side. The Dragons were afforded the same benefit and may start the game strongly because of it but in the end, the Knights will possess too much power over an 80-minute contest. With an average winning margin above the line, expect them to pull away comfortably to win this match.

Leg 1 = Total points under 49.5 – see above for justification.

Leg 2 = Young to score – despite not scoring in his past 2 NRL matches, Young managed 5 in the two games prior to that. He also enjoys games against the Dragons, with 6 tries from his past 4 matches against them.

Leg 3 = Marzhew to score 2+ tries – he scored 5 tries in their Round 10 meeting, taking his total to 7 tries in 4 games against the Dragons. He has stayed in form too, with 10 tries from his past 5 NRL matches and will again be keen to increase his total.

Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.
