ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier Betting Tips
We'll prefice this article by stating that there is not a whole lot of value in either of the groups. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are the clear favourites to advance to the Super 12 from their respective groups, but we'll do our best to find something to make the qualifier tournament interesting.
Group A
Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Namibia
There's a small chance that an upset could occur in the group stages, and if it were to happen, Group A is probably the group where I think it could. Sri Lanka have dropped all the way to 10th in the ICC World T20 rankings, behind the likes of Bangladesh, Afghanistan and just ahead of a trailing pack of rapidly improving countries.
One of those countries that has been on the precipice of breaking through for the last few years has been Ireland. They are a fast-developing cricket nation and have some real talent in their ranks in the likes of Paul Stirling, Kevin O'Brien and Andrew Balbirnie.
Make no mistake, the Sri Lankans are the class outfit of this group, but they have been prone to poor performances in big tournaments over the last decade, so if an upset were to occur, it would most like be Ireland who sneak through here.
Group B
Bangladesh, Scotland, Oman, Papua New Guinea
Although the odds suggest this to be a closer group, I can't really see Bangladesh being beaten here. Scotland is their only threat, but they just aren't at the level where they can be competing with the top tier nations in the world at the moment.
Bangladesh have proven matchwinners in the T20 format led by one of the best all-rounders in the world in Shakib Al Hasan as well as two of the top 15 T20 bowlers in the world in Mustafizur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed.
