It is one of the biggest race days of the year this weekend with the Cox Plate being held at Moonee Valley. Meanwhile Randwick will play host to the inaugural Invitational as well as a stack of other high quality races throughout the day.
Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the meetings and has found his best bets across the country.

Moonee Valley Race 2
I think (10) Starry Legend looks a cracking bet here to start off the day. Is a very smart colt for Sadler, having won three of his four career starts and pulled up with post race issues his only defeat. Was much too good first up over this trip, finding the front and giving nothing else a chance. I love the low draw and the big drop in the weights and with the Valley predicted to be hard and fast, he will take some serious catching.
Randwick Race 3
(5) Able Willie was a very good winner on debut and still did plenty wrong. He has been back to the trials since that win and looked smart there. If he can improve his race manners he will be winning this with a leg in the air I think. I’d say he will flop out the back from barrier 9 and there looks a genuine speed which should suit him. Getting to the bigger Randwick track can only be a positive and he looks a horse who can go on to win some good races.
Moonee Valley Race 5
Pretty keen on (2) Heresy here who was poleaxed in the Caulfield Guineas after looking like she was bolting. Has been airborne all prep and deserves to break through for a win. She did some very good work through the line there last start so I think should come on from that still. Yet to run a bad race in her career, Oli rides from a perfect barrier and she could just be better than this lot. Keen to bet up.
Moonee Valley Race 7
No Prizes for finding him but (1) Forgot You looks close to the ‘M Word’ here. He ran home in some ridiculous sectionals in the Caulfield Guineas - running a faster L200 than Anamoe if you don’t mind! Looks absolutely primed out to this trip now and has a genuine middle-distance/stayer sort of profile about him. Will win this today with even luck and I’d say he goes on to probably win the Derby. Just cannot find anything that beats him here if he takes any sort of improvement out of last start.
Randwick Race 9
(6) Entriviere is yet to run a bad race since coming to Aus and she looks a very good winning chance here in The Invitation. She hasn’t had much luck with wide draws and it’s no different here but I think she might be able to sit a bit handier today. Been ticked over with a little trial in between runs where she looked good, and I think she’s a genuine $2.20 chance. We are getting $3+ due to the gate and I’m willing to take the risk that she can overcome that today and Berry is the man to get her home.
