GWS vs North Melbourne Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2025 Round 22

Response Needed

The Giants served up an embarrassing performance last week, in an 88 point defeat that leaves them vulnerable to missing the top eight. The Giants are only four points ahead of the ninth placed Bulldogs, who have a significant percentage advantage. The Giants have the lowest percentage of any team in the top 9 (111.3%) which means they’ll need to win their remaining three games to guarantee finals. GWS were smashed in all of the key areas, recording -51 contested possessions, -42 disposals, -22 inside 50’s and -17 clearances. The most alarming stat arguably was GWS conceding 20 marks inside 50, with Sam Darcy and Aaron Naughton combining for 10 goals and 12 marks.

Will The Streak End?

North Melbourne were much better last week than they were the week prior, but failed to take their chances in a nine point loss to St Kilda. The Kangaroos jumped out to a 19 point lead early in the second quarter, but then conceded 9 of the next 12 goals as they gave away complete control. North couldn’t get any territory, losing the inside 50 count 54-38 which was largely due to their struggles at the coalface, losing the contested possession count by 27. The Kangaroos have games against the Giants, Tigers and Crows to finish the season, and face an uphill battle to end their losing streak before the end of a disappointing season.

The Stats That Matter

The Giants need a response after last week’s massacre, and they’ll be looking to their transition game to get them back on track. GWS are 1st for scores from kick-ins, 3rd for scores from defensive half, 4th at transitioning from D50 to a score, 5th for intercept possessions, 6th for scores from turnover, and 6th for going from defensive 50 to forward 50. Their transition game is the best in the competition, and they should be able to expose a struggling North Melbourne defence.

The Kangaroos are the second worst defensive side in the competition conceding an average of 101 points per game, and also rank a lowly 14th for points for (74 points per game). Another massive area of concern for the Roos has been their inability to prevent sides from going inside forward 50, with the Kangas ranked 17th for opponents inside 50’s per game. With the quality GWS have inside forward 50, things could get ugly if the Roos allow an abundance of inside 50’s.

Giants or Kangaroos? Here’s our GWS vs North Melbourne Tip

GWS will be desperate to bounce back after last week’s performance, which was their biggest defeat since the 2019 Grand Final. With their top eight position vulnerable, and their percentage needing some boosting, you can expect a ruthless performance from Adam Kingsley’s side. North Melbourne’s 15 losses this season have come by an average margin of 41 points, while their current six game losing streak has come by an average margin of 51 points.

The Roos have conceded scores of 150, 134, 119, 84, 150 and 78 in their last six weeks, and they’re going to be seriously pushed by a seriously good GWS forward line. The Giants have a good record against the Kangaroos, holding a 6-2-1 record across their last nine games against North Melbourne, including winning the last three games. Except a big bounce back from the Giants, who will be desperate to get back some pride after a horrific performance last week.
