Gold Coast vs Brisbane Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2025 Round 20

Suns Aspire for First Finals Berth

Since entering the league in 2011, the Gold Coast Suns have never played finals footy and this year, their loyal fans will be hoping they can cling on to get a taste of September action. They currently sit eighth on the ladder, and have won three of their past four matches, with their loss in that time coming last round when thumped by the Adelaide Crows. Prior to that defeat, the Suns impressed beating Collingwood by six points. Matt Rowell has been in red-hot form, showing why he is an elite inside midfielder in the league. He is a juggernaut when it comes to tackling, averaging 9.2 per game.

Defending Champs Hungry for Back-To-Back Success

After an agonising loss in the 2023 AFL Grand Final to Collingwood, the Brisbane Lions returned in 2024 to annihilate the Sydney Swans. The Lions have a history of making consecutive grand finals, their three-peat in 2001-2003 is testament to that, although they lost in 2004, and they are chomping at the bit for a third straight appearance this year as they sit second on the ladder. Brisbane has won four straight, including wins over the Western Bulldogs and Geelong in that time. Josh Dunkley and Will Ashcroft have been awesome in recent weeks and throw in the likes of Hugh McCluggage, Oscar McInerney and Darcy Wilmot among others, and this Lions outfit looks scary once again.

Recent H2H & Key Stats

The QClash between the Suns and Lions has largely been one-sided with the Lions winning 21 of the 28 contests. The Lions have won the past three with Dunkley, Dayne Zorko, McCluggage and Lachie Neale the most prominent Lions during those encounters, while Sam Flanders and Noah Anderson have been the most productive for the Suns in the past four contests between the two teams. The Lions rely on their kicking first, averaging a league-best 230.9 per game, whereas the Suns often move the ball by hand with Anderson handballing 15.7 times per game.

Wet Weather Footy? Here’s Our Gold Coast vs Brisbane Tip

Rain is expected to fall on Saturday which won’t bother both sides who have won more than half of their games since 2022 in wet conditions. The expectations of making their first AFL Finals must be something in the back of the Gold Coast players minds as they take on an in-form defending champion. The Lions have an edge over the Suns, and they look good enough to cover the small spread as they march towards September with ambitions to defend their crown.

Brisbane Lions -8.5

Gold Coast vs Brisbane Prop Bet

Our Best Player Prop Bet: Josh Dunkley Most Disposals Group B

Strong around stoppages, Josh Dunkley is going to get a lot of the footy and has been dominant against the Suns in recent clashes. He had 26 disposals in the Round 8 match up and looks the most likely to lead Group B for disposals. The price on offer is really appealing for this consistent midfielder.

Most Disposals Group B: Josh Dunkley

$2.35

Gold Coast vs Brisbane Same Game Multi

Matt Rowell 25+ Disposals: Gold Coast’s midfield machine is racking up the ball lately and he is averaging 25.2 disposals for the year. With no Touk Miller, Rowell will be more prominent with possession.

Darcy Wilmot 20+ Disposals: Wilmot averages 19.1 disposals per game and he comes off a career game against Carlton in Round 18.

Under 166.5 Points: Recent QClash’s have been lower scoring and rain is predicted. This game should go under 166.5 points.
