Fremantle vs Gold Coast: 2025 AFL Elimination Final
Dockers Surge Into Finals With 12 Wins From 14
The Dockers had a fantastic finish to the season, winning 12 of their last 14 games to surge into sixth place on the ladder and lock up the all important home final at Optus Stadium. They were beaten by only the Swans and the Lions in that stretch, and when they came up against the Suns back in Round 13, they secured a 13 point win in Perth.
The Dockers haven’t set the world alight on either side of the ball, ranking 9th in offence and 7th in defence across the course of the season but it’s been their measured ball movement and calculated attacks that have been the catalyst to their game. A strong continent of key defenders mixed with dynamic small forwards and the best home field advantage in the league makes them a formidable match in finals footy.
Suns Scrape Into Finals After Late-Season Rollercoaster
The Suns faltered late in the season and almost lost their grip on a finals berth, dropping games to GWS and Port Adelaide in the final three rounds. A rescheduled game against Essendon which ended in a 95 point win was enough to jump from 9th to 7th and book a trip to Perth to face the Dockers. They have gone through some poor stretches this season, dropping three straight games to the Dockers, Cats and Giants in the middle of the season before winning seven of their last 10.
The Suns ranked 4th in offence and 4th in defence across the season, placing them firmly in the premiership window. But with only a few of the players on their list having any finals experience whatsoever, could the moment be too much for some of the Suns stalwarts who have been starved of finals footy for so long.
Finals Fitness: Dockers Rested, Suns Add Veteran Spark
The Dockers come into the final series with a fairly clean bill of health. Sam Switkowski has used the pre-finals bye to rest after injuring his right knee, with the important small forward needing to pass a fitness test this week to feature.
The Suns will likely only make one change to the team that faced the Bombers on last Wednesday night as the club games record holder David Swallow is set to make a fairytale return after announcing his retirement at seasons end throughout the week.
Dockers or Suns? Here’s our Fremantle vs Gold Coast Tip
Hard to look past the Dockers at home here. This crowd will be absolutely pumping as Fremantle play just their 2nd home final since in 10 years. In any other season, winning 12 of your last 14 games would almost certainly secure a top four spot, but as was the dominance of the top nine teams this season, the Dockers could only force their way into 6th spot. I think they are one of the form teams in the competition at the moment, while Gold Coast come into the game in some shaky form.
The Dockers are well equipped to handle the Suns tall forwards and their midfield is one of the few that could go toe to toe with the likes of Rowell, Anderson and Miller. I think the Dockers get the job done at home and cover the 11.5 point line in the process.
Fremantle vs Gold Coast Player Prop Bet
Our Best Player Prop: Shai Bolton 2+ Goals
The small forward has been in solid form lately, booting 2+ goals in two of his last three. He was near best on ground in the Round 13 win over the Suns, racking up 20 touches and booting three goals on the back of five scoring shots. I think he will be very active again on Saturday night.

Fremantle vs Gold Coast Same Game Multi
Throughout the 2025 AFL season we’ll be putting together a fun same game multi for every match using Dabble.
Murphy Reid Anytime Goalscorer - Strong goalkicking form coming into finals, having kicked 1+ in his last five straight games.
Daniel Rioli 20+ Disposals - Slowish finish to the season, racking up 20+ in just one of his last seven games but was red hot earlier in the season and I think he finds that form again as one of the few Suns with genuine finals experience. Had 27 in the loss to the Dockers earlier this year.
Hayden Young 20+ Disposals - Has been hindered by injury all season but you’d have to think he is feeling near 100% if he is playing in a final here. Odds are too good for a perennial ball winner to rack up 20+ here.
