England vs India: 4th Test Betting Tips
Liam Dawson Recalled After Eight Years
It will be Test match number four for Liam Dawson with his last Test coming back in 2017 against South Africa. Dawson’s inclusion has been backed by superstar Harry Brook, and the left-arm spinner will be searching for footmarks at Old Trafford.
In the third Test, it was former captain and England’s most decorated batter, Joe Root, who scored a brilliant century in the first innings. He then followed it up with 40 in his second knock to top score in both innings for England. The openers have failed in their past two matches, which is an area they’ll want to improve. Zak Crawley is averaging just 30.89 in 57 Tests and will feel immense pressure at the crease with his career potentially on the line.
On the bowling front, duties have been relatively shared with wickets shared amongst the group in the third Test. Pace will be the key early in the match and then expect Dawson to bowl a lot of overs, especially late in the Test. Both teams will be looking to avoid batting last at Old Trafford where runs are generally very hard to come by – scoring more than 200 can often be a feat in itself.
Predicted England XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Liam Dawson, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer
Bumrah and Siraj Need to Strike Frequently, Gill to Perform
India’s top pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who is on track to go down as one of the greats of the game, will need to do a lot of heavy lifting as always, especially in a series where India trail 2-1. He was brilliant in the third Test, capturing 5/74 and 2/38. Mohammed Siraj chipped in with two wickets in both innings, while Washington Sundar picked up 4/22 in England’s second innings.
Captain Shubman Gill had a rare poor Test match with scores of just 16 and 6. That came off the back of his second Test heroics of 269 and 161. Expect Gill to bounce back and show his class in Manchester.
Opener KL Rahul scored 100 in the first innings at Lord’s and will be keen to get amongst the runs once again. Veteran allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has been outstanding as a batter in the series with scores of 89, 69*, 72 and 61* and may be required to do more with the ball in the fourth Test. He hasn’t shown his best with the ball but that could quickly change if the pitch suits in the latter half of the match.
We don’t know India’s XI at the time of writing so the XI could drastically change as injuries force changes.
Predicted India XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Anshul Kamboj
Here's Our England vs India 4th Test Tip
Injuries have hurt India on this tour and England have a good recent record at Old Trafford. Both of those factors point to the home side who also lead 2-1 and have a chance to capture the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.
Harry Brook missed out in the third Test, so I expect him to be prominent in the fourth Test, averaging a mammoth 57.67 after just 28 matches. Joe Root is always reliable, Zak Crawley is playing for his career, and Ben Duckett is due for a big score after a century at Leeds in the first Test. England’s shared bowling success means that even if one bowler is off, they can still find success, whereas India will be reliant on Jasprit Bumrah to take his fair share of wickets.
England have the advantage at home, especially at Old Trafford, and can take a 3-1 series lead to secure the trophy.
