After finding their footing in season 2023 just before time ran out on them, Carlton now face one of the toughest tests in football when they take on Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium this Saturday.
Carlton’s season was hanging by a thread after their Round 13 loss to Essendon. It was their sixth straight loss and their eighth from their last nine games. Their record stood at 4-1-8 and even their most passionate supporters were losing hope.
However, fast forward to Round 18 and Blues fans have found their voice after seeing their team reignite their finals dreams with three wins on the spin. Admittedly, all three wins were against bottom half sides, but it’s a start.
Meanwhile, Port Adelaide continue to go about their business. Since starting the season with one win and two losses, they’ve reeled off 13 straight victories to put themselves in the box seat for a top four finish.
And unlike some clubs in the top eight, the Power haven’t only been ticking over the win column in front of their home fans, they’ve also been getting it done on the road. What’s more, they’ve won their last eight matches at Marvel Stadium, which is the best such streak at the venue in the competition by some way.
The Power may have a couple of key outs with the likes of Charlie Dixon and Willie Rioli unavailable, but it’s still not enough to justify the underdog price tag in my opinion.
You don’t get many opportunities to back a team on a 13-match win streak to defeat a team sitting in 11th spot on the ladder with a negative record. This is one of those opportunities.
