Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Shintaro Mochizuki
Tuesday, January 20, 09:00pm AEDST
It’s the re-match of the United Cup clash that kicked off the year, as Stefanos Tsitsipas will look to give Shintaro Mochizuki a repeat dose as they meet under the Australian Open lights as part of night three.
The meeting between the two was one I kept a close eye on in Perth earlier this month. There had been a lot of talk about Tsitsipas after dealing with some pretty major injury, form and personal issues across the course of the 2025 seasons. After his loss to Daniel Altmaier at the US Open, Tsitsipas said he had struggled to walk for days due to a back issue that has persisted.
2026 looks to have started on the right foot, although the first 5 minutes of his last meeting with Mochizuki did not quite go to plan. After being broken to love to start, the match from there was almost one way traffic. The Mochizuki style can take a little getting used to, however with Tsitsipas with a recent head to head under his belt, a very strong United Cup compared to Mochizuki, and the Greek night session crowd at his back, the -6.5 games is too good to pass up.
