Another day, another win for the Australians as they made it nine wins on the bounce with a 17 run win in game one. South Africa certainly took it up the Aussies in game one, can they lift in game two to keep the series alive? Action gets underway at Marrara Stadium at 7:00pm AEST on Tuesday, 12th August.

Australia vs South Africa 2nd T20I Preview & Betting Tips
Aussies Just Keep Winning
Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa
Australia’s ultra aggressive gameplan looked to have backfired when they fell to 6/75 after 7.4 overs, but it was that same aggression that got them out of trouble and into a winning score. Tim David produced another innings full of brute force, smashing 8 sixes on his way to a match winning 83 off 52 balls, supported by handy cameos from Ben Dwarshuis (17) and Nathan Ellis (12). Cameron Green continued his good form smashing 35 off just 13 deliveries, his fifth score of 30+ in six T20I matches in 2025.
It was a well rounded performance with the ball for the Aussies, led by Josh Hazlewood’s 3/27 in his return to the T20 arena. Hazlewood picked up the key wicket of Aidan Markram in the first over, while also breaking Tristian Stubbs and Ryan Rickleton’s 72 run partnership. Ben Dwarshius was excellent with 3/27 including the wicket of top scorer Ryan Rickleton, and Adam Zampa was dangerous as usual with 2/33.
Australia’s approach in T20 cricket over the last 12 months post the T20 World Cup has been clear to see, and it’s working. They are going all out with the bat from ball one with no fear of losing their wicket, with Australia’s run rate in their 14 games post the 2024 World Cup being 8.90, 10.18, 10.66, 13.30, 11.28, 10.41, 7.35, 13.29, 9.65, 9.18, 9.46, 9.80 and 16.14. They’ve recorded run rates of above 10.18 in five of their last six games, all done whilst chasing, so those figures could have been ever higher. It’s refreshing to see Australia modernising their T20 brand, and it’s thrilling action for the fans.
Plenty Of Promise for RSA
South Africa squad: Aiden Markram, Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Prenelan Subrayen, Rassie van der Dussen
Although there will be plenty of frustration at missing a golden opportunity to beat Australia, the Proteas can take plenty of positives from game one. 19 year old Kwena Maphaka was outstanding taking 4/20 from his 4 overs, comfortably the best performance of any bowler from either side.
South Africa had Australia in a lot of trouble at 6/75, but they failed to capitalise on their strong start, with Tristan Stubbs’ drop of Tim David on 56 proved costly. Australia could’ve been 8/136 if Stubbs held onto the catch, and Australia would’ve likely been dismissed for under 150.
Ryan Rickleton top scored with 71, however he struggled to get any tempo going early in the game, which had the required run rate above 10 for a large portion of the chase which South Africa couldn’t wrangle. The power hitting was a big discrepancy between the two teams, with the Proteas only hitting 2 sixes in comparison to Australia’s 13 sixes.
Australia vs South Africa Match Prediction
The gap in experience and form between the two sides was clear in game one, and there’s plenty of upside in Australia’s batting, which is a scary prospect. Mitch Marsh, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell and Mitch Owen all failed to fire - it’s difficult to see that happening two games in a row. The gap in power hitting between the sides is massive, especially if Luhan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis continue to struggle in their first series in Australia.
The depth across Australia’s bowling attack is another big advantage they have in this matchup, with the experience proving crucial in game one. These two teams are in vastly different spaces of form, and Australia will seal their sixth series victory from their last seven series with a win on Tuesday night.
