PGA Tour: 3M Open Betting Tips
Top Contenders
Recently turned 26-year-old Chris Gotterup couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present after finishing third in The Open Championship at Royal Portrush. Just one week earlier, Gotterup bested Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge to win the Genesis Scottish Open. Prior to his European visit, Gotterup was in good form with a T21 performance in the John Deere Classic. Gotterup’s elite driving should suit the TPC Twin Cities, and if his short game can be on, then expect him to be towards the top of the leaderboard.
Runner up in 2024 behind Jhonattan Vegas, Max Greyserman shot 16-under, including a 63 in the final round to clinch outright second. Greyserman’s putting has been a strength, including last year, and that can help on the birdie-heavy layout that is Twin Cities. One concern is that he missed the cut at both the Scottish Open and the British Open, but the course is going to play vastly different to those two links courses in the UK.
Dark Horses
The 2022 3M Open champion has played in the event six times and has always finished in the top 30. Besides his 2022 triumph, Finau has also been T7th at 15-under in 2023. He finished T56 in The Open Championship last week and had been playing relatively well until a four-over in the final round to finish one-over for the tournament. Returning to a course where he has been consistent should give the 35-year-old plenty of confidence.
Rico Hoey has finished T8 at the Barracuda Championship, T34 at the ISCO Championship and T11 at the John Deere Classic in his last three outings. He is in relatively good form heading into this week’s event and will be hoping his powerful driving can carry him to success as his putting can often let him down. With Happy Gilmore 2 set to release, let’s hope Rico can channel his inner Happy from the tee.
The Field
The 2025 3M Open field showcases a mix of past champions and rising stars, with a lot of major names taking the tournament off with Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele to name a few, taking the week off.
Defending winner Jhonattan Vegas returns to TPC Twin Cities, while 2022 winner Tony Finau is amongst the field of contenders looking to hold the 2025 trophy aloft. Other former champions lining up in 2025 are Lee Hodges and Cameron Champ.
Key contenders this year include tournament favourite Sam Burns, Genesis Invitational runner up Maverick McNealy and the red-hot Chris Gotterup, winner of the Scottish Open and third placegetter in the British Open.
The Course
TPC Twin Cities is a 7,431-yard par-71 Arnold Palmer design that was established in 2000. The course record is 260 set by Lee Hodges when winning in 2023 by seven strokes at 24-under. Strong ball-striking into wide fairways is often a recipe for success, but 27 water hazards on 15 of the 18 holes in addition to 72 bunkers makes the 3M Open exciting to watch.
The winning scorecard will likely be at least 15-under or better and conditions are expected to be mostly positive with some brief showers anticipated, but mostly cloudy or sunny weather. Most days, temperatures are predicted to be around 30 degrees Celsius.
