The 2019 Formula 1 season continues this weekend as the tour heads to Sakhir for the annual Bahrain Grand Prix. Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas took out the crown in Melbourne and will be looking to make it back to back this weekend in Bahrain.
We give our full preview and betting tips for the weekend's action below.
2019 Bahrain Grand Prix Betting Tips
The Bahrain Grand Prix is held annualy at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, and is the first night race of the Formula 1 season. The conditions in Sakhir are generally pretty favourable, with race night temperatures usually ranging from around 25-30 degrees celcius.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel claimed the top step on the podium in the Bahrain Grand Prix last season, his second in a row and fourth title overall. Vettel has won the Bahrain Grand Prix more than any other drive with four wins since the races inception in 2004. Fernando Alonso has claimed three wins while both Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa both have two titles.
Much like he was in Melbourne last weekend, Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas outraced his teammate Lewis Hamilton in Bahrain last season as he finished second and recorded the fastest lap of the race. It would be the first of seven 2nd place finishes without a single win for Bottas throughout the 2018 F1 season, a hoodoo he has already broken through one race this year.
The 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix was, however, headlined by a host of retirements from top level drivers. Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari as well as both Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo from Red Bull all retired from the race. For Ricciardo, it would be the first of eight retirements for the season, which was a key factor in his move to Team Renault for the 2019 season.
Unfortunately for Ricciardo, the 2019 season hasn't started much better, as the Australian was forced to retire in his home race after his lost his front wing on the very first lap of the race.
We tipped Vettel to win the Australian Grand Prix after some good form in testing and at the Albert Park Circuit in the past. The race didn't go his way but he is once again our pick to take out the Bahrain GP. He has been unstoppable on the Bahrain International Circuit over the past two years, winning both races in dominant fashion. He is great value this weekend after the Mercedes took the 1-2 finish in Melbourne. At $4.50, we love Vettel.
