Match Preview
The Western Bulldogs head back to Mars Stadium this weekend for a big clash against Port Adelaide in a game that could shape the trajectory of their seasons. Both teams are firmly in the finals mix, and with plenty on the line, this one promises a physical contest. The Bulldogs have built some solid form over the past few weeks and will be keen to keep it rolling in a venue that’s become a stronghold.
The Dogs are coming off a strong win over GWS and look to be hitting their stride. Adam Treloar’s return adds more drive through the middle, and their midfield group is starting to click into gear. They’re moving the ball with purpose and applying plenty of pressure around the contest — exactly the kind of footy that works well in Ballarat. The Dogs have won eight of their last ten games at Mars Stadium, and they clearly enjoy the conditions and the home-like atmosphere. With growing confidence and a clear style taking shape, they’ll be tough to knock off.
Port Adelaide, on the other hand, have been patchy. They’ve had moments where they look sharp, but haven’t put together a consistent four-quarter effort for much of the season. They’ve had the wood over the Dogs recently, winning the last four meetings between the sides, but this time around the form lines are different. The Power have made structural changes, including Connor Rozee’s move to half-back, and are still figuring out their best mix. A trip to Ballarat, especially against a team in form, isn’t the easiest assignment.
The Bulldogs look far more settled and are playing the type of footy that stacks up well in tougher conditions. They’ve got good balance across the field and have shown they can control territory and apply scoreboard pressure early. Mars Stadium suits their contested style, and with a vocal Ballarat crowd behind them, they should be able to gain the upper hand.
While Port have had recent success in the head-to-head match-up, this time it feels different. The Bulldogs are the in-form side, they’ve made Mars a fortress, and they’ve got momentum. If they bring their usual pressure and sharp ball movement, they should have too much for Port and run out comfortable winners.

Bulldogs to Win – For the reasons mentioned above.
Zak Butters 25+ Disposals – He’s in scintillating form – arguably the best in the competition. I think any ground suits him and can’t see him going under 25.
Bailey Dale 25+ Disposals – A couple of quiet weeks for Dale but he should get less attention than he’s been receiving in this one. Like him as a value leg.
SGM Odds: $3.10 at BoomBet
