The UFC returns to the Meta APEX in Las Vegas this weekend for an intriguing UFC Fight Night card headlined by a short-notice heavyweight clash between Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Johnny Walker.
Originally scheduled to feature Sean Brady against Gabriel Bonfim, the event underwent a late reshuffle after Brady withdrew through injury. Cortes-Acosta and Walker now take centre stage, with both men looking to make a statement in the heavyweight division.
The co-main event features a fascinating grappling contest between leading women's strawweight contenders Tatiana Suarez and Virna Jandiroba, while bantamweight prospect Elijah Smith faces experienced British veteran Davey Grant.

Event: UFC Fight Night – Cortes-Acosta vs Walker

Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs Johnny Walker
Division: Heavyweight
Fight: Main Event – 5 Rounds
Records: Cortes-Acosta (17-4) vs Walker (23-10)
The UFC's replacement main event presents an intriguing opportunity for both heavyweights, with Waldo Cortes-Acosta looking to rebound from consecutive defeats and Johnny Walker hoping to build on a spectacular start in his new weight division. Cortes-Acosta enters with a professional record of 17-4, having suffered decision losses to Alexander Volkov and Curtis Blaydes after stopping Derrick Lewis in the second round earlier this year. Those defeats came against established heavyweight contenders, and the Dominican remains a dangerous boxer with considerable knockout power.
Walker, meanwhile, made an immediate impact in his heavyweight debut at UFC 332 in October, knocking out Mick Parkin with a flying knee at 3:35 of the opening round. The Brazilian's unpredictable striking, considerable reach and explosive finishing ability make him a difficult opponent to prepare for. However, durability has been a recurring concern throughout his career, particularly during his time at light heavyweight, where he suffered several knockout defeats.
The short-notice nature of this contest adds another layer of uncertainty. Walker accepted the fight with just over a week's notice, while Cortes-Acosta must prepare for a very different opponent from the conventional heavyweight matchups he has faced recently. Cortes-Acosta should have the advantage if the fight extends into the later rounds, particularly with his more measured boxing and experience against established heavyweights. However, Walker's size, reach and unorthodox attacks give him genuine opportunities to produce an upset early.
The price of Cortes-Acosta looks too short given the circumstances. Walker is certainly the riskier selection, but his explosive finishing ability makes the $2.98 available on the outsider appealing for a small investment. His history of knockout losses and the five-round distance are significant concerns, making this a speculative value play rather than a high-confidence selection.

Tatiana Suarez vs Virna Jandiroba
Division: Women's Strawweight
Fight: Co-Main Event – 3 Rounds
Two of the women's strawweight division's leading grapplers collide in the co-main event, with Tatiana Suarez looking to strengthen her case for another title opportunity against Brazilian submission specialist Virna Jandiroba. Suarez has built her reputation around exceptional wrestling, combining relentless takedown pressure with strong positional control. The American enters on a two-fight winning streak, having defeated Amanda Lemos by decision before submitting Loopy Godinez in the second round at UFC 327.
Jandiroba brings a contrasting but equally dangerous ground game, relying on her Brazilian jiu-jitsu credentials and ability to capitalise on submission opportunities. The Brazilian challenged Mackenzie Dern for the vacant strawweight title last year but lost by decision, before returning to winning form with a unanimous-decision victory over Tabatha Ricci. Her experience against elite opposition makes her a legitimate threat, particularly if she can create scrambles and attack submissions.
The key to this contest is likely to be who controls the wrestling exchanges. Suarez has the strength and takedown ability to dictate where the fight takes place, while Jandiroba will be dangerous if she can threaten submissions from underneath or reverse position. Neither fighter relies heavily on knockout power, making sustained grappling exchanges and a potential judges' decision realistic outcomes. Suarez's ability to secure takedowns and maintain top control could prove decisive in close rounds.
Suarez is a clear favourite, and the price reflects her wrestling advantage and ability to control rounds. Jandiroba is no easy opponent, and her submission skills make this a competitive matchup, but Suarez has the more reliable route to victory through takedowns and positional control.

Davey Grant vs Elijah Smith
Division: Bantamweight
Fight: Main Card – 3 Rounds
One of the more interesting matchups on the card sees experienced British bantamweight Davey Grant take on highly rated American prospect Elijah Smith. At 40 years of age, Grant is considerably older than his 24-year-old opponent, but remains a dangerous and entertaining fighter with an aggressive striking style, proven submission ability and the experience to handle difficult situations inside the Octagon. Grant has won three of his last four fights, most recently defeating Adrian Luna Martinetti by decision in April.
Smith represents the next generation of UFC bantamweights and enters on an impressive eight-fight winning streak, including three consecutive UFC victories. His athleticism, speed and explosive striking have attracted attention, highlighted by a spectacular powerbomb knockout of Toshiomi Kazama last year. The 24-year-old is clearly a rising talent, although facing an experienced veteran such as Grant represents another important test of his development.
Grant's best opportunity may come from turning this into a demanding, high-tempo contest rather than allowing Smith to dictate the exchanges. The Englishman is willing to trade punches, attack from unusual angles and maintain pressure throughout three rounds. Smith's speed, power and improving all-round skills are obvious threats, particularly early, but Grant's experience gives him a plausible route to victory if he can extend the fight and make it competitive in the later stages.
Smith is a strong favourite, and his winning streak makes that understandable. However, Grant has repeatedly shown that he can compete against dangerous younger opponents, and his recent form suggests he should not be dismissed purely because of his age. The $3.55 available on the veteran is an appealing speculative price, although Smith remains the more likely winner. Grant will need to withstand the early exchanges and use his experience effectively to produce the upset.
