Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore's season has taken a dramatic turn for the worse, with the Ravens falling to 4-4 following a comprehensive 36-10 defeat against Buffalo last weekend. The loss was their third consecutive defeat, but the result was overshadowed by another devastating injury to Lamar Jackson. Returning from an ankle injury that had kept him sidelined for three games, Jackson suffered a serious thumb injury on Baltimore's opening offensive play and is now set to undergo surgery, leaving the Ravens without their star quarterback for an extended period.
The situation became even worse when backup Tyler Huntley suffered a toe injury against Buffalo, forcing inexperienced quarterback Joe Fagnano into action. Fagnano completed just 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and an interception, while taking three sacks. With Huntley also battling injury concerns, Baltimore faces the prospect of relying on Fagnano again on a short week. Derrick Henry remains the Ravens' biggest offensive weapon, but Jacksonville's excellent defence will be well prepared to load the box and force Baltimore to move the football through the air.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville enters Week 9 as one of the AFC's form teams, improving to 5-2 with a dominant 42-7 victory over Indianapolis last weekend. The Jaguars completely controlled the contest, forcing three turnovers and restricting the Colts to just 243 total yards. Trevor Lawrence continued his outstanding recent form, completing 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns as Jacksonville established a commanding lead and never looked threatened.
Lawrence has now thrown seven touchdowns across his past two appearances, with the Jaguars scoring 73 points during that stretch. Rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten has also emerged as a major contributor, producing 104 rushing yards and 159 total yards against Indianapolis while finding the end zone twice. Jacksonville ranks among the NFL's top five teams in offensive and defensive efficiency, with its defence holding six of seven opponents to 20 points or fewer. Injuries to Travon Walker and the defensive line are worth monitoring, but the Jaguars arrive in Baltimore with considerable momentum.
Prediction
This matchup looks increasingly difficult for Baltimore, particularly given the enormous uncertainty surrounding its quarterback situation. The Ravens have struggled offensively even with Jackson available at times this season, and the prospect of starting an inexperienced quarterback against one of the NFL's best defensive units is hardly encouraging. Jacksonville has been outstanding at forcing turnovers and limiting opposition scoring, while Baltimore has now lost three consecutive games and failed to cover the spread in all three home appearances this season.
The Jaguars also hold a significant advantage on the other side of the football, with Lawrence playing some of the best football of his career and Jacksonville's offence firing on all cylinders. Baltimore's defence remains capable of making plays, but the Ravens could struggle to sustain drives and keep their defensive unit off the field. With Jacksonville boasting superior form, greater stability at quarterback and a defence well equipped to contain Henry, the Jaguars look capable of building a comfortable lead and covering the 8.5-point handicap.

Trevor Lawrence Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns
Lawrence has been in sensational form over the past fortnight, throwing seven touchdowns across Jacksonville's past two games, including three in the dominant victory over Indianapolis. The Jaguars quarterback has now produced 17 passing touchdowns through seven games, averaging more than two per contest, and enters this matchup against a Baltimore defence that has struggled to contain opposing passing attacks. The Ravens have also been particularly vulnerable against quarterbacks operating against zone coverage, an area where Lawrence has excelled this season. With Jacksonville expected to enjoy plenty of possession against Baltimore's depleted offence, Lawrence should have opportunities to attack through the air and find the end zone multiple times. Two passing touchdowns looks an achievable target for the in-form Jaguars quarterback.
