NBL27 Season Preview & Betting Tips

Melbourne United ($3.30)

Melbourne enter the season as the clear market favourites after claiming the NBL27 Blitz title. Under new head coach Jacob Chance, United have retooled with fresh, high-profile imports Cole Anthony and Josh Oduro. Importantly, they have added Joe Ingles and Luke Travers to an already elite local core featuring Chris Goulding and Shea Ili. Their defensive foundation and overwhelming depth make them the undeniable team to beat, justifying their short odds.

Adelaide 36ers ($5.50)

Trevor Gleeson takes the reins of a star-studded Adelaide roster. Bryce Cotton remains the focal point of the league's most dangerous offence, surrounded by returning imports Zylan Cheatham, John Jenkins, and Nick Rakocevic. While the addition of defensive specialist Bul Kuol provides much-needed perimeter lockdown ability in theory, he suffered a season-ending ACL injury last year and is expected to miss a large chunk of the NBL27 campaign. However, Gleeson and Cotton have proven to be a winning partnership in the past, and with such a strong roster at their disposal, the 36ers are our pick to win the championship this season.

Sydney Kings ($6.50)

Brian Goorjian leads the defending NBL26 champions into the new season with a squad stacked with NBA pedigree. The Kings bring back crucial pieces of their title-winning core, including returning imports Torrey Craig and Kendric Davis, who rejoin a roster already featuring Matthew Dellavedova. With the off-season addition of import Andrew Carr, their talent ceiling remains astronomical. While defending the crown is always a challenge, if they can maintain their championship chemistry and integrate Carr quickly, they could go back-to-back.

Tasmania JackJumpers ($8.00)

Scott Roth’s men remain one of the toughest outs in the NBL. The JackJumpers welcome back returning import Bryce Hamilton, though punters should note he is recovering from a severe ACL injury suffered in January and will miss the start of the season. They have also brought in fresh talent like Dakota Mathias and secured the massive homecoming signature of Tasmanian-born point guard Taran Armstrong to complement a gritty local core. While they lack the marquee NBA names of the top three, their system, defence, and home-court advantage ensure they are always a genuine championship contender.

S.E. Melbourne Phoenix ($9.50)

The Phoenix have been aggressive in the off-season. Under third-year head coach Josh King, they have brought in a completely new import trio of Skylar Mays, Yannis Morin, and D'Shawn Schwartz. Led locally by Nathan Sobey and Jordan Hunter, and bolstered by the addition of Next Star Dash Daniels from Melbourne United, they showed excellent pre-season form, finishing second at the Blitz. They offer genuine value as a dark horse if their imports can fire consistently.

Perth Wildcats ($13.00)

Under John Rillie, the Wildcats are looking to bounce back with returning imports Kristian Doolittle and Dylan Windler providing vital continuity. With Jesse Wagstaff offering veteran leadership and local talent like Ben Henshall looking to take a leap, Perth will be competitive. However, their longer odds reflect the challenge of matching the sheer firepower of the league's top tier.

Illawarra Hawks ($14.00)

Justin Tatum leads a Hawks squad that has undergone a significant import overhaul, bringing in Darius Days, Milton Doyle, and Kelan Martin. With Tyler Harvey and Sam Froling anchoring the locals, Illawarra has the scoring punch to cause upsets. Their success hinges on how quickly Tatum can establish a cohesive defensive identity.

Brisbane Bullets ($18.00)

Will Weaver takes charge of a heavily revamped Bullets roster featuring multiple new faces. Imports Nate Hinton, Jaylin Williams, and Arnas Velička headline the squad alongside veteran big man Tyrell Harrison. While their ceiling remains a mystery, the sheer volume of turnover makes them a risky outright bet until they prove their chemistry on the floor.

New Zealand Breakers ($20.00)

Gordon Herbert steps in to lead a Breakers side that will rely heavily on returning star Parker Jackson-Cartwright alongside new imports Charles Bediako and Josiah-Jordan James. The addition of sharpshooter DJ Vasiljevic gives them a proven scoring threat who can stretch the floor on any given night. However, navigating a gruelling travel schedule in a stacked league makes them an outsider for the championship.

Cairns Taipans ($26.00)

Adam Forde’s Taipans round out the market with a solid foundation. With Jack McVeigh returning alongside fresh off-season additions in experienced import Jaylon Brown and former Illawarra big man Jonah Bolden, the Taipans project as a highly entertaining, fast-paced unit. The return of star big man Keanu Pinder and the highly anticipated arrival of 17-year-old Next Star Luke Paul bring plenty of excitement to the Far North. However, the depth required to string together a championship run against the heavyweights makes them a long shot.
