NRLW Round 7 Preview & Betting Tips

Gold Coast Titans vs St George-Illawarra Dragons

Cbus Super Stadium – Saturday 15th August – 12:45pm (AEST)

The Titans were victorious last week 24-10 against the Sharks in what is always a tricky road trip. With a narrow 14-10 lead at HT, they kicked into another gear in the second half and kept their opponents scoreless. They were terrific in managing the game with 52% possession and an 85% completion rate given little opportunity to their opponents. This saw them make 9.9m per carry and 9 line breaks, continually pressuring the Sharks and taking their opportunities. The Dragons can only dream of such a standard as they suffered a 16-12 home loss to the Tigers. Goal kicking let them down as their 3 tries went unconverted, only for the Tigers to score in the last minute of the match. They tried hard with a 75% completion rate but were let down by 36 missed tackles.

There is only one possible outcome in this contest based on the form of each team so far in 2026. The Titans are superior in every area and will slowly go to work and break down the Dragons in the middle before striking on the edge. This is why they are listed as such short favourites so, you need to go searching for value. Given the home side have an average win margin of 21.6 points and the Dragons loss average is 21.6 points, the large line (24 points) should be avoided. The safer option is to take the home side to defeat the visitors by more than 3 converted tries, leaving the chance that they miss a kick or two out of the equation.

Parramatta Eels vs Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

CommBank Stadium – Saturday 15th August – 3:15pm (AEST)

The Eels were completely outclassed and dominated in their 42-6 road loss to the Roosters last week. Managing to score in the first half, their defence continually cracked under the pressure created by their opponents; they missed 34 tackles and conceded 10 line breaks for the match. They were also poor with the ball, completing at just 68% with only 36% possession which saw them make just over 800m for the match. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped embarrassment in their 28-26 home victory over the Cowboys. With a greater share of possession (53%) and a 77% completion rate, they conceded 4 tries in the second half to come close to losing the match. Thankfully, their 10.1m per carry, 663 PCM’s, and 8 line breaks wore their opponents down throughout the contest.

The injury-ravaged Eels are up against it in this contest. The Bulldogs, who are unchanged, not only have momentum on their side but also consistency. Pearson does return at halfback for the home side but that will only assist on one side of the ball; the Eels still leak points at crucial times. The fact that they are still winless highlights how poor they can be. Despite getting close to a win, this will not be the week for them. They struggle in the middle to generate power through their carries, while the Bulldogs have the speed on the edges to trouble their opponents. The line (7.5 points) should be higher and therefore, it is worth taking on.

Brisbane Broncos vs Sydney Roosters

Suncorp Stadium – Saturday 15th August – 5:15pm (AEST)

The Broncos were upset 28-4 on the road last week by the Raiders, ambushed and unable to produce their stunning early season form. Trailing 6-4 at HT, they capitulated in the second half. Given little change with just 43% possession, they didn’t aid their cause with a 66% completion rate, as they trailed their opponents in every major area. Most alarming was their 37 missed tackles, an area they must address beyond this week if they are to improve. The Roosters had no such issues in their 46-6 home victory over the Eels. Dominant in every area (64% possession, 77% completion rate, 9m per carry, 618 PCM’s & 10 line breaks), they powered away from their opponent in the second half scoring 6 great tries. Their defence was also terrific, missing just 15 tackles and conceding only 1 line break.

Given the Broncos are missing two of their first-choice spine players, the value on the Roosters is high. They have proven this season that they are a class above most teams. The Broncos are one of the only teams capable of defeating them but that is a tough task with the players missing from their lineup. That could be a vastly different story later in the season. For now, use the value on offer for the Roosters to your advantage as the bookies have gotten this market wrong from the beginning.

Newcastle Knights vs Canberra Raiders

McDonald Jones Stadium – Sunday 16th August – 11:50am (AEST)

The Knights were upset on the road 22-14 last week by the Warriors, paying the price for failing to execute. Leading 12-10 at HT, they fell away in the second half with 46% possession, 44 missed tackles and 12 line break conceded the root of their troubles. This overshadowed the fact that they made 9m per carry. There were no such issues for the Raiders as they sprung a surprise 28-4 upset of the Broncos at home. With a strong share of possession (57%) they overcame a poor completion rate (68%) to score 4 second half tries while keeping their opponent scoreless. Their defence was resolute, missing just 15 tackles and allowing 1 line break. It was a loud statement of the potential this team possesses.

The Raiders will take plenty of confidence from their first-ever win over the Broncos. Heading on the road to face the Knights, a similar standard is required should they wish to be successful in this contest. The win of the visitors has obviously swayed the minds of punters too; this could also be impacted by the return trip from New Zealand that the home team must endure in preparation for this match. With minimal changes to their team, they still hold a strong team capable of defeating the Raiders. It will be close though; the Raiders, while inconsistent, can produce periods of pressure which generates positive momentum in their favour. That will keep the score close as the home side prevails in a thrilling NRLW match.

Knights 1-12

Wests Tigers vs New Zealand Warriors

CommBank Stadium – Sunday 16th August – 1:45pm (AEST)

The Tigers scraped home last week on the road against the Dragons, with a 69th minutes try seeing them prevail 16-12. Importantly for their development, they hung in the contest by having a larger share of possession (52%) and higher completion rate (78%). This allowed them to overcome their 7.9m per carry to create 6 line breaks. Their defence was strong also, missing just 22 tackles. The Warriors were also victorious, winning 22-14 at home against the Knights. Rated as outsiders and trailing 12-10 at HT, the Warriors kicked into another gear in the second half and executed accordingly. In the end they completed at 84% with 54% possession, made 9.7m per carry, and had 12 line breaks. In some ways, they will be disappointed not to have won by more but will take the victory, nonetheless.

Had the Tigers been a full-strength for this match, they would be closer in betting markets. Unfortunately, the lack of quality from the home team makes them vulnerable in this match. The Warriors will take plenty of confidence away from their performance last week. You can discredit the Tigers completely at your own peril. The Warriors have a history of making things difficult for themselves in matches and this brings the line (7,5 points) into play. They may only scrape home with this one and using this option to your advantage allows for a Tigers upset.

Tigers +7.5

North Queensland Cowboys vs Cronulla Sharks

Queensland Country Bank Stadium – Sunday 16th August – 6:15pm (AEST)

The Cowboys tried hard last week on the road but were narrowly defeated 28-26 by the Bulldogs. Trailing 26-6 at HT, they clawed their way back into the contest via a 78% completion rate to combat their 47% share of possession. This allowed them to average 9.3m per carry and create 6 line breaks. Unfortunately, they were let down defensively, missing 37 tackles and conceding 8 line breaks. The Sharks were also defeated, losing 24-10 is far more challenging circumstances. Outplayed for majority of the contest, they failed to score a point in the second half after trailing 14-10 at HT. Even with an 84% completion rate and 48% possession, they let themselves down defensively; they missed 41 tackles, conceded 9 line breaks, and allowed 9.9m per carry.

This is an ugly contest to part ways with your money in. The confidence in both sides is low as neither has demonstrated consistency this season. As that doubt lingers, it is best to avoid picking a winner altogether; the Cowboys could easily win this game as much as the Sharks could score a comfortable victory. One this is for certain with a high average of points conceded (Cowboys 33ppg vs Sharks 21ppg), the total points offered looks set to be eclipsed in positive attacking conditions.
