Sydney vs Richmond Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 12

Response Needed

The Swans have lost top spot after the Cats handed them a 27 point loss in Geelong last week. The 27 point margin flattered Sydney, with Geelong kicking 15.17, Sydney were beaten comfortably across general play recording -45 disposals, -40 uncontested possessions, -29 marks, -24 inside 50’s, -15 contested possessions and -4 clearances. Despite the loss, you can’t ignore what Sydney have put together across their 9-2 start to the season. The Swans rank 1st for points per game, 1st for inside 50’s, 1st for handball metres gained, 2nd for disposals, 2nd for tackles and 2nd for handballs.  Sydney ranks in the top seven for all score sources and score origins, the only team in the league to do so.

Another Win On The Board

Richmond moved off the bottom of the ladder with a gritty win against Essendon at Dreamtime at the G, with an 18 point win. Richmond’s senior players stood up with Jayden Short (30 disposals, 1 goal), Tim Taranto (30 disposals) and Tom Lynch (2 goals, 6 marks) playing crucial roles. Patrick Retschko had a breakout performance in his sixth game, with 27 disposals. Richmond have mixed news at selection with this week with Sam Banks and Dion Prestia coming in, but Tom Lynch will miss this week with a larynx injury.

Recent Head to Head History

This has been an even match up over the last six years, with Sydney winning four games and Richmond winning three. The Swans came out on top the last time these sides met, coming out with a 44 point victory.

Swans or Tigers? Here’s our Sydney vs Richmond Tip

It was an excellent victory by Richmond last week, however it’s going to be a massive task coming up against Sydney, especially with their injuries. The Swans had won seven in a row before last week’s defeat and are 5-0 at the SCG, a venue Richmond have struggled at over the last 20 years. Sydney have won 10 out of their last 11 games against the Tigers at the SCG and that is where this game will go. The Swans are the most complete attacking team in the league, while Richmond are the lowest scoring team in the league.

The Tigers rank 18th for disposals, 18th for inside 50’s, 17th for tackles, 16th for clearances and 14th for marks, that isn’t a statistical profile that stacks up against the best teams. Sydney have dominated against teams outside of the top six, with a 7-0 record and wins by margins of 63, 44, 128, 41, 66, 8 and 6 points.
