Storm vs Rabbitohs Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 8 2026

The biggest test the Storm will face

It has been a while since the Storm have experienced a 5-game losing streak but that is exactly what has come from their 26-22 road loss to the Raiders. Spirited at times, they were again let down by their execution in key moments. With just 47% possession, they completed at 67%, unable to build on their 9.8m per carry. Their poor effort was also evident defensively as they missed 37 tackles and conceded 7 line breaks. Usually able to get themselves out of a difficult situation, the Storm appear lost now and need a strong performance to break their current run of form.

Taking care of business in style

Heading into the game as favourites, the Rabbitohs delivered with a strong 30-12 home victory over the Dragons. They gave minimal opportunities to their opponents as they controlled all facets of the game. The victory was established with 54% possession, an 85% completion rate, 10.1m per carry, and a massive 661 PCM’s. They were also strong defensively, missing just 22 tackles and ensuring the Dragons averaged significantly fewer metres. Most impressive was the performance of several key Rabbitohs individuals, who stepped up to another level. The challenge ahead is now maintaining this standard in an environment they are winless in.

Stats that matter

- The Rabbitohs have never defeated the Storm at this ground, going winless in 13 attempts. The Storm have a 76% strike rate at home.

- The Rabbitohs are superior on both sides of the ball so far this season. They average 29ppg in attack and concede 24ppg whereas the Storm both score and concede 26ppg.

- The past 5 matches between these sides has seen an average margin of victory of 14.2 points. The average total points for the same numbers of games is 49.4 points.

A tough, epic contest

Sooner rather than later, the Rabbitohs are going to break their duck in Melbourne. This is arguably their greatest chance in recent memory. The performance of the Storm is hardly going to fill someone with confidence and most weeks, they are entering into contests shorter in price based off reputation. They have maintained the same squad of players and expecting a different result. With most capable, their opponents are no longer fearing them; underestimate them at your own peril, they are still extremely talented. The Rabbitohs are performing strong and with key players in form, they are a chance. The shift in personnel on the field for this team is interesting; perhaps Bennett is playing ‘mind games’ by naming Smith at second row as it appears to weaken them in the middle. This aside, the two teams appear evenly matched and this game looks set to go down to the wire, with the winner only emerging late in the contest.

Leg 1 = Total match points under 50.5 – see above for justification.

Leg 2 = Johnston to score – on fire in 2026 with 6 tries in his past 5 matches, Johnston has scored in each of them also. He scored 4 the last time he played against the Storm and has 9 in his past 5 games against them.

Leg 3 = Wishart to score – missing his spark from the bench this season, the Storm need their interchange player to step up. Wishart has 3 tries in his past 4 matches against the Rabbitohs and needs to offer impact when he enters the field if his team are to be a chance of winning.

Scooby's strength is assessing the overall team - what they offer across the field in a match and how the ethos of a club contributes to their success. Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.

Other sports he enjoys include Cricket, Horse Racing and NFL. There is a reason why Scooby ‘clicked’ with BYB from Day 1 - he loves his sport as much as we do.
