Geelong vs West Coast Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 5
Close, But No Cigar
Geelong went down by a point on Easter Monday in what will be one of the best games of the season. The loss leaves Geelong in 12th place with a 2-2 record, which doesn’t look impressive, but they’ve played four finalists from last season in their opening four games. The Cats played great football for the majority of the game, however they didn’t execute in key moments across the final 90 seconds of the game, which ultimately cost them. Bailey Smith (33 disposals) and Max Holmes (27) continued their great form, while Shannon Neale (4 goals) and Ollie Henry (3) were crucial targets up forward.
Back To Reality
After back to back wins in Rounds 2 and 3, West Coast were given a harsh reality check on the weekend, with a 128 point thumping from Sydney. It was the fifth biggest defeat in West Coast’s history, highlighting that they still have a long way to go in their rebuild, despite some positive signs this year. The Eagles were massacred in every facet of the game, -138 disposals, -97 uncontested possessions, -47 marks, -43 contested possessions, -16 inside 50’s, -13 clearances and -12 tackles. West coast conceded a whopping 95 points from turnover and 56 points from stoppage, two areas that leave them incredibly vulnerable against Geelong.
Recent Head to Head History
Geelong have certainly had the better of this matchup in recent years, winning seven of their last eight games against West Coast and are currently on a six game winning streak against the Eagles. Those six wins have come by an average margin of 63 points, with four wins in excess of seven goals.
Cats or Eagles? Here’s our Geelong vs West Coast Tip
The skinny dimensions at Norwood Oval challenge most AFL clubs, however given the dimensions of GMHBA Stadium, the Cats won’t have any issues adjusting to the ground. Geelong are brilliant at trapping teams in their defensive half on skinny grounds where teams can’t use the width, and that is exactly what will happen on Sunday. West Coast are ranked 18th for disposals, 18th for marks, 16th for inside 50’s and 14th for points - that simply doesn’t stack up against a quality outfit like Geelong. The last six games between these two sides have seen wins to Geelong by margins of 43, 93, 47, 85, 18 and 97 points. This will be another lopsided affair as the Cats look to bounce back from a defeat.

Geelong vs West Coast Prop Bet
Shannon Neale has played some excellent football for Geelong over his past three games, kicking nine goals in that timespan. Neale has kicked 3+ in two of his last three games, and hit the mark eight times in 2025. With the consistent supply Geelong’s forwards will get on Sunday against arguably the worst defence in the league, expect another big outing from Neale.

Geelong vs West Coast Same Game Multi
Shannon Neale 3+ Goals: As highlighted above, Neale is in great form and gets an opportunity to feast on a defence that conceded 163 points last week.
Bailey Smith 30+ Disposals: After a quiet game in Opening Round, Bailey Smith has gotten back to the form that saw him make the All Australian team in 2025. Smith has recorded 31, 40 and 33 disposals across his last three games, and is having a huge impact on games. Smith racked up 38 disposals in his last game against West Coast.
Max Holmes 25 + Disposals: Max Holmes has been one of Geelong’s most consistent performers in 2026, with games of 29, 32, 27 and 27 disposals. Holmes is averaging 28 disposals per game this season and is a reliable leg to anchor your multi.
Ollie Henry 2+ Goals: A much maligned player at Geelong who has struggled for consistency, Ollie Henry is beginning to find his groove in the Cats forward line. Henry has six goals from three games this season, and is coming off a 3 goal performance on Easter Monday.
