A-League 2025-26: Round 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Auckland FC vs Melbourne Victory
Go Media Stadium, Saturday 11th April, 3:00pm AEST
The first game on Saturday’s slate sees a top four clash between second placed Auckland FC and fourth placed Melbourne Victory. Auckland FC continue to justify their status as one of the standout teams of the 2025/26 campaign, sitting firmly inside the top two of the ladder. The Black Knights have combined defensive structure with consistent attacking output, which has made them a tough side to take on this season. Melbourne Victory come into this game after a horror Round 23, with a 1-0 defeat against Wellington, compounded by a potential season ending injury to Juan Mata.
Auckland’s attacking output has continued to lift as the season goes on, having the two top goal scorers in the league with Sam Cosgrove (10 goals) and Jesse Randall (9 goals). Auckland have always been able to control games in the midfield and defence, but now they are becoming a side that can blow by teams from an attacking standpoint. They build pressure, dominate territory and limit opposition chances. That was evident in their recent performances, where they’ve consistently found ways to win both at home and on the road.
Going across the ditch will be a big challenge for Melbourne, given the Victory have struggled in away games this season. Victory have won only four of their eleven away games, ranked eighth in the A-League. Having lost their biggest attacking weapon in Juan Mata, coming up against the second best defence in the competition, it’s going to be too big of a challenge for the Victory to overcome.

Newcastle Jets vs Adelaide United
McDonald Jones Stadium, Saturday 11th April, 5:00pm AEST
The second top four clash of the weekend sees the league leading Newcastle looking to bounce back when they take on Adelaide United at McDonald Jones Stadium. The Reds have moved into third place on the table after their draw last week and are currently on a seven game unbeaten streak, with their last defeat coming against the Jets back in February. After an 11 game unbeaten streak, Newcastle have lost two of their last three games to see their lead at the top of the table reduce to just three points.
This game is set to be a cracking affair between the two most prolific clubs in the competition, with Newcastle ranked first (48 goals) and Adelaide second (40). This match will feature three of the top five goal scorers in the competition in Luka Jovanovic (9 goals), Clayton Taylor (8) and Lachlan Rose (8). The ball should be flying end to end end with both teams wanting to keep plenty of speed on the ball.
If Adelaide can capitalise on Newcastle’s defensive gaps, they’re every chance of taking something from the match. But the Jets’ home form, attacking depth and scoring consistency make them slight favourites in what should be a high-scoring contest. The total goals has hit over 3.5 goals in 8 of Adelaide’s last 15 games, while 8 of Newcastle’s last 16 goals has hit over 3.5 total goals. There will be goals aplenty in this game between two high scoring teams, and we’ll be taking over 3.5 total goals.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Sydney FC
CommBank Stadium, Saturday 11th April, 7:35pm AEST
The third Sydney Derby of the season takes place on Saturday night as Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers look to end four game winless streaks. It’s a crucial game for the Sky Blues, who are only three points clear of seventh placed Macarthur and need to win to guarantee their place in the top six. For the Wanderers who sit at the bottom of the table, there’s nothing to gain in terms of their finals aspirations, however they would love to beat their crosstown rivals.
The Wanderers have struggled badly from an attacking standpoint this season, sitting second last in the league for goals scored with 26. That makes this matchup even tougher for Western Sydney, given Sydney FC are the best defensive side in the league having conceded only 23 goals in 23 games. To pair with their struggling attack, the Wanderers are one of the worst defensive sides in the league, ranking 10th for fewest goals conceded.
As always, the derby factor complicates everything. Form and ladder position often become secondary to emotion and key moments. The Wanderers will lean heavily on home support and physicality, while Sydney will look to control the tempo and capitalise on mistakes. Sydney FC have a great record in the Sydney Derby, winning five of their last seven games against their crosstown rivals, including a 4-1 win in their last game against the Wanderers. With Sydney FC needing to win to keep their place in the top six, expect a big performance from the Sky Blues.
