Big Bash League (BBL15) Renegades vs Stars Betting Tips
Marvel Stadium, Saturday 10th January, 7.15pm AEDT
Melbourne Renegades
The Renegades are one of the form sides of the competition, coming in off back-to-back wins and knowing another victory could propel them into the top four. Their most recent outing against the Scorchers was built on an outstanding bowling performance, rolling Perth for just 127 with veteran Gurinder Sandhu leading the charge with 4 for 28, setting the tone from the outset.
The chase was far from smooth. Melbourne were wobbling badly at 5 for 72 and staring down the barrel of defeat before young gun Ollie Peake produced a breakout innings, smashing 42 off 30 balls and sealing the match with a six off the final delivery. Peake now departs for the Under 19 World Cup, forcing at least one change, while Adam Zampa’s availability remains uncertain. Even so, the Renegades’ bowling unit continues to punch above its weight and their confidence is clearly growing.
Melbourne Stars
The Stars enter the derby under pressure after losing three straight matches, though they remain third on the ladder with a 4 and 3 record. Their most recent loss to the Sixers was another frustrating one. Batting first, they were bowled out for just 128, with only Blake Macdonald and Marcus Stoinis able to push past 30 in an innings that never gained traction.
There were positives with the ball, as Stoinis again impressed with figures of 2 for 20, but the total was never enough and the Sixers cruised to victory with 17 balls to spare. Reinforcements are on the way, with Tom Curran expected to return from hip soreness, a significant boost to both their bowling depth and lower-order batting. The Stars also need more from Glenn Maxwell, who has struggled to make an impact from number six, but the talent remains undeniable.
Match Prediction
The Renegades are flying and have found ways to win tight games, but they are missing key pieces here. The absence of Ollie Peake removes a crucial middle-order option, and if Adam Zampa is also unavailable, their bowling loses a major point of difference.
The Stars, meanwhile, feel primed for a response. Tom Curran’s return adds balance, and despite their recent losses, their batting lineup remains one of the strongest in the competition, with Stoinis and Maxwell capable of controlling games in multiple ways. In a rivalry game that often swings on momentum, the lean is Stars to bounce back, square the season series and reassert themselves.

Marcus Stoinis to score 30+ is the standout play. He has barely missed when required this season, with scores of 62 not out, 32 not out, 43, 16 and 33, consistently delivering impact whether batting first or chasing. With the Stars needing leadership and stability, Stoinis looms as the most reliable option to anchor and accelerate at Marvel Stadium.
