EPL 2025-26: Matchday 4 Preview & Betting Tips

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest

Emirates Stadium, Saturday 13th September, 9:30pm AEST

The Ange Postecoglou era at Nottingham Forest begins in North London, as Forest head south to take on Arsenal. Forest haven’t had an ideal start to the season with a 1-1-1 record after three games, but Nuno Esprito Santo’s fallout with the owner which ultimately led to his sacking, has put the club into a spin. Arsenal had their first loss of the season on Matchday 3, in a timid performance that has been accustomed for the Gunners against the best sides, under Mikel Arteta. The 1-0 defeat against Liverpool once again highlighted Arsenal’s inability to win games against the best teams, which has cost them over the last three seasons.

Nottingham Forest’s defence has been all over the place to start the season, having the 17th ranked defence in the Premier League with 5 goals conceded from 3 games. Arsenal on the other hand have been the best defensive side in the league, conceding just one goal through three games. Arsenal’s challenge will be to maintain the high intensity from the start, press Forest in midfield, exploit space whenever Forest push forward, as they likely will under Postecoglou.

The Emirates has been a tough place for opponents to come to in recent times, with the Gunners losing only two of their last 20 games at home. Arsenal have dominated the head to head battle against Nottingham Forest, with seven wins, one draw and one loss from their last nine Premier League fixtures against Forest. It’s a tough ask for Forest to go on the road to North London with a manager who has been there less than a week and win. Arsenal will be desperate to bounce back, and will do so in convincing fashion on Saturday night.

Burnley vs Liverpool

Turf Moor, Sunday 14th September, 11:00pm AEST

Liverpool make the trip to Turf Moor this weekend looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season, while Burnley will be desperate to kickstart their campaign after a difficult opening run of fixtures. Burnley are 1-0-2, with their only win coming against Sunderland and they face a massive challenge against the best team in the league. The defending champions are the only team remaining with a perfect record, and one of only two teams that are undefeated through three games.

The Reds balance in attack has been a work of art so far this season, with seven different goal scorers through three games. Liverpool have scored a league high eight goals, twice the amount of goals Burnley have scored this season. Burnley have also struggled in defence, conceding six goals already, the third most in the Premier League. Vincent Kompany’s side are going to be challenged massively at both ends of the pitch, and they’ll be looking to create a slow, dour affair to manage the damage as best as possible.

The head to head record between these sides heavily favours Liverpool.,The Reds hold a commanding 10-2-1 record over their last thirteen league fixtures against Burnley, including winning the last five meetings. The gulf in quality between the two squads has generally been clear. Burnley’s defensive set-up has often struggled against Liverpool’s pressing and quick interchanges, and with the Reds once again looking sharp in the final third, it could be another long night for Kompany’s men.

Manchester City vs Manchester United

Etihad Stadium, Monday 15th September, 1:30am AEST

The first Manchester derby arrives at a tricky moment for Manchester City who have lost back to back games. After three Premier League games, they have scored 5 goals ( 3 of them coming from the boot of Erling Haaland), while conceding 4 in total. Their recent 2-1 defeat away against Brighton exposed recurring defensive lapses, which haunted them in their 2-0 loss the week prior against Tottenham. Pep Guardiola’s side cannot afford any more slip ups, with Liverpool already beginning to put some decent separation between them.

Manchester United’s start has also been uneven. They have picked up 4 points from their first three Premier League matches with a 1-1 draw at Fulham, a 0-1 loss at Arsenal, and a 3-2 home win over Burnley. United have scored 4 goals in those games, conceding 4 as well. Their defensive record is shaky, with no clean sheets so far, and they have conceded on average 1.33 goals per match, and manager Ruben Amorim is under a mountain of pressure after their EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

Despite their struggles to start the City to edge this one. Their attacking sharpness and home advantage give them the upper hand. United may hold on for parts of the game and potentially threaten, but they’re unlikely to deny City all three points unless City’s defensive frailties resurface in sloppy fashion. Man City have a 5-1-2 advantage across the last eight Premier League matches between the two Manchester sides, and they’ll continue their strong run with a comfortable victory.
