Sydney vs Fremantle Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2025 Round 17

Season Over

There was some renewed hope after two straight wins, however Sydney’s nine point defeat to the Bulldogs has all but put the nail in the coffin on their season. The Swans were left to rue some horrendous turnovers in their defensive 50 and some woeful kicking at goal, which sees the Swans three games outside of top 8. Sydney were +27 tackles, +23 contested possessions, +4 inside 50’s and +3 clearances against the Dogs, yet couldn’t get the job done. It’s been a nightmare season on the back of their horrific grand final defeat last year, with very little to gain for Sydney in the back end of 2025.

Heave Ho

After a 4-5 start to the season Fremantle were under the pump, but since then they’ve peeled off six straight wins to sit in seventh place on the ladder. Fremantle are equal on points with third placed Adelaide, and have a genuine chance of finishing in the top four. After this weekend’s clash the Dockers face a big audit for their top four hopes, with games against Hawthorn and Collingwood. Fremantle have reshaped the way they’ve played from the dull, defensive possession based side they have been under Justin Longmuir, placing a higher value on high impact and direct ball movement. The Dockers rank 16th for disposals and 15th for marks, but have become more threatening, ranking 4th for centre clearances and 5th for scores from centre bounces.

The Stats That Matter

Fremantle’s ability to force turnovers and score from them over their six game winning streak has been a massive factor. Across their last six games Fremantle have scored 58, 58, 41, 27, 52 and 61 points, in that same timespan Sydney have conceded 55, 15, 14, 88, 82, and 33 points from turnover. The Swans have conceded some massive scores on turnover at home this season, which will be an area they could get exposed.

The centre clearance battle will be another massive factor in this clash, in what has also been a big strength for Fremantle and a weakness for the Swans. The Dockers rank 4th in the competition for centre clearances while Sydney rank 13th, Fremantle rank 5th for scores from centre bounce, with the Swans ranking 16th.

Swans or Dockers? Here’s our Fremantle vs Sydney Tip

It’s surprising to see a team that’s 12th on the ladder as firm favourites against a side that are 7th and on a six game winning streak. While Fremantle have been known in previous seasons to struggle on the road, the SCG hasn’t been a daunting venue for the Dockers. Fremantle have won their last two games at the SCG, when the Swans were going well.

Sydney have struggled at home this season, with a 2-5 record which would give Fremantle plenty of confidence given the form that they are in. With Alex Pearce, Jaeger O’Meara and Jeremy Sharp back into the squad, the Dockers will have a strong outfit on the park on Sunday afternoon. The Dockers are excellent value in this clash and will continue their strong form against an average Sydney side.

Sydney vs Fremantle Prop Bet: He-Man

Our Best Player Prop Bet: Heeney 2+ Goals

While the Swans have failed miserably in backing up their efforts from last season, Isaac Heeney has put together another excellent season in front of goal. Heeney has kicked 22 goals in 2025, including 5 goals last week to nearly drag his side over the line. Heeney has kicked 14 goals from his last 6 games, kicking multiple goals in four of those six games.

Isaac Heeney 2+ Goals

$2.20 (1 Unit)

Sydney vs Fremantle Same Game Multi

Isaac Heeney 2+ Goals: As mentioned above, Heeney is in red hot form in front of goal, kicking 2+ goals in 4 of his last 6 games.

Jordan Clark 25+ Disposals: Jordan Clark is in a seriously hot patch over the last month, with performances of 31, 33, 26 and 30 disposal games. Clark loves playing at home, averaging 26.4 disposals per game at Optus Stadium in 2025.

Andrew Brayshaw 25+ Disposals: As we’ve come accustomed to over the past five seasons, Andy Brayshaw continues to rack up the footy, averaging 28 disposals per game in 2025. Brayshaw has reached the 25+ disposal mark in 6 of his last 7 games with returns of 25, 29, 31, 30, 21, 30 and 34 disposals. With Caleb Serong likely to receive the James Jordan tag, Brayshaw should be set for another big day.
